First Five Years are
Forever.
Golden Pond School's approach embraces this truism!

Golden Pond School has  exceeded  the quality standards established by the nationally recognized accrediting body - The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement, a division of AdvancED. This confirms to our parents that we have already met high standards and we have committed to implement a continuous process of school improvement focused on increasing student performance.

Program Spotlight: Private Kindergarten

Make your child's milestone year of Kindergarten count! Golden Pond has designed an exceptional Private Kindergarten curriculum that exceeds the Virginia Standards of Learning and is adapted to the Loudoun County Program of Studies while integrating the experiential learning methods and theme-based approach of the Golden Pond Way.

In addition to our Private Kindergarten, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, we offer busy parents an Extended School program. Extended School provides children with a structured environment for learning and play from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Through theme-based learning, our Kindergarten curriculum highlights reading and math activities, as well as social studies and science, art, music, and Spanish. Students have opportunities to explore themes through educational field trips. Recent classes have toured the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., and explored creepy crawlies at Rust Nature Sanctuary in Leesburg. Children enjoy small reading groups, center-based activities, and whole group learning. Parent events include The Simple Machine Expo, Underground Animal Presentations, Fairy Tale Tea and more!

Research shows that Executive Function skills predict children's success in life and school more than IQ!

Kathie Burrell, owner of GPS for over 14 years and an expert in Brain Based learning, recently shared the importance of Executive Function Skills with Discovery Elementary School.  Executive Function skills coordinate smooth working between the 3 areas: Inhibitory Control, Working Memory, and Cognitive/Mental Flexibility. These skills grow in complexity as children mature.

Executive Function is often called the Air Traffic Control System of the brain. Proper function of these areas is not completely genetic. The plasticity of the brain allows for promoting its successful development. At Golden Pond we work on the structure of our daily routines and activities, and develop your child's executive function skills each and every day.

Something to Quack About

"School leaders have adopted a mission to use brain-based instructional methods to educate the whole child in a developmentally appropriate and nurturing environment. That mission is carried out passionately and with fidelity by all staff members in a classroom. The school's children are highly engaged in a theme-based instructional process that allows them to connect prior knowledge to new learning."
