The District is aware of questions circulating in the community about the use of the gym at Lewisboro Elementary School. 

As a result, we are sharing again the FAQ we provided at the time of the lease agreement with the Town of Lewisboro, and we draw your attention to questions 5 and 7.

Helping Children Become Skilled Readers & Writers

KLSD's three elementary schools are project schools of Teachers College Reading & Writing Project, one of the world's most respected providers of professional development in the teaching of literacy. 

This year, teachers benefited from in-school mentoring and coaching by staff developers, and principals received  leadership training with Lucy Calkins, the founding director of TC Reading and Writing Project.

Active and Engaging Elementary-Age Experiences

Increase Miller Elementary School is rehearsing for band and chorus, and orchestra concerts on June 7 and 13. TAKE A PEEK.

Fourth graders at Katonah Elementary School performed Orff Instruments at a Sharing Assembly.  LISTEN.    
 
Students at Meadow Pond Elementary School have been learning the "Shim Sham Shimmy" from a JJHS senior intern. SEE HIM TAP AT A TOWN MEETING.   

Purple Press Is On-Press!

The Purple Press--John Jay Middle School's newspaper--is published each June and distributed to students as a little light reading after exams.

Topics in this year's edition range from 3D printing and the ethical issues around self-driving cars to school bus seat belts and turkey vultures.

JJMS Music Ensembles Receive Silver at NYSSMA 

Congratulations to John Jay Middle School's Chamber Orchestra and Select 6th Grade Chorus!  Each group received a Silver Award at the NYSSMA Major Festival, demonstrating excellent levels of technical and artistic skill.

The Chamber Orchestra will be performing on June 8, and the 6th grade singers will be part of their class chorus concert on June 12.   


Senior Independent Experience Fair June 13

Since May 1, John Jay's seniors have been teaching, editing, filing, farming, sitting in meetings and stepping up with skills they might not have known they had.
