HAPPY JULY 4TH!
2017

Hope you had a safe and a happy July 4th!

Houston Ground Angels
Management Review
July 2017

Tony Castiglie, Vice President & Treasurer

The extended 4th of July weekend gives us all a time to reflect on how fortunate we all are to live in a country like the United States, a state like Texas and a Region & City like Houston.  I am unaware of any other place that provides the type of services that Houston Ground Angels do & it is a tribute to every volunteer who makes this all happen.

So what are the stats?  Thus far, 1,220 Missions have been run this year by 76 Volunteers serving 589 Patients and/or Companions.  As always, those we serve are always so grateful for helping in relieving some of the stress associated with going to M.D. Anderson for treatment.

Special recognition this month is given to Charles Whitworth.  Not only is he the leader of the pack this year & last year also but he just ran his 1,000th Mission.  Charles has been a Houston Ground Angels since 2007 & resides in the Katy Area.  Charles is as special as they come & it is a privilege to be associated with him.  Thanks Charles for your 10 years of service.

The June Newsletter included a section which bears an inclusion this month.  To assist our volunteers & to promote a sense of comradery, we provide shirts, car flags & caps.  If you need any of the above items, please contact Kathy Cardiff via e-mail @ [email protected]. Keep in mind that we provide these items only to volunteers who run missions.  They are all quality products & we must pay for them.  Please reply promptly since we will be procuring these items shortly.

To every volunteer, "Thank You" for being part of this wonderful organization and making it the success that it is.  2017 is going to be another good year with projection about 2,500 missions.

Sincerely,
Tony
Household Chores Keeping You From Missions?
spring_cleaning.jpg
We all have chores around the house that we want done, but often we simply don't have the desire to get up and do them, or they keep us so busy, we don't have time to do the things we want to do. Chores like clean out the gutters, haul trash away, paint a room,  hang up laundry, pull the weeds, clean the house, clean the kitchen or bbq grill, and the list goes on. Now there's an app for these chores.

I saw this app on the news and tried it out and it is great, it is TAKL. With TAKL, they do small to medium size chores around the house, and the prices are very reasonable.

The folks that do these chores have been background checked every possible way. They also have other jobs and are wanting to pick up extra work.

With this app, you sign on, pick the chore you want and the price is listed so there are no bids to get. There is also a custom area for jobs not listed. When you post your chore, people who want to do it, sign up. Each person has a short bio so you know about them and you pick the person you want to do the chore. You also say when you want it done, even if it is in the next hour or two. After the chore is complete, you are asked if you are satisfied and when you click yes, your credit card is billed then.

When I used this app, I had a lot of things to be hauled away and the quotes I had from other companies were between $275-450. TAKL took care of it for $95, and the man that came out worked in the oil field 7 days on and 7 days off and he was just picking up extra work while he was off. He was very nice and professional. You can find this app on iTunes or the app store.

If you decide to use this app, use this promotional code for 10% off:  D8F94.

With chores around the house taken care of with TAKL, you might have time to pick up an extra mission or two.

 SAVE THE DATE!

The weekend after Labor Day, on Saturday, September 9, 2017, 10:00 a.m. - noon, we will be having a Coffee at First Baptist Church of Houston in their Harbor Party Area.

This church has generously offered to let us use this nice room with an adjacent bowling alley, and game area. So, we will be hosting a bowling contest with gas cards as prizes. We will also have brunch food items to enjoy.

Come meet other volunteers, and share your stories!

This church is located on the corner of 610 Loop and I-10, on Post Oak. It is the most centrally located location we could find, with hopes that many volunteers will be able to join us! Address: 7401 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77024.

Please RSVP to [email protected] or call 832.752.9645.

So please mark your calendars today and plan on attending! We hope to see everyone there!

If you know of a company or individual who would enjoy receiving our newsletter, or would consider volunteering with us, please let me know.

Also, Houston Ground Angels thanks all companies that are considering or are supporting this great organization!
Have a wonderful summer, and thank you to all of our volunteers for all you do for our patients!
