CJTF-HOA, Djiboutian Catholics Reunite in Show of Faith, Partnership

The United States Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa is a strategic force engaged in forging relationships with partner nations in East Africa. Headquartered in Djibouti at Camp Lemonnier, we do not hear as much of its work in the news as other deployed headquarters, yet its mission is a crucial component of our overall strategy.
One of the CJTF-HOA focused tasks is to forge relationships through multilateral partnerships to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation between partners in the region. Chaplains have made significant contributions to the mission.

In the midst of all the bad news in the world regarding terrorist attacks and crumbling relationships, a bit of good news has come from CCJTF-HOA and military chaplains were part and parcel of making it happen.

On June 15, three years after a terrorist attack in downtown Djibouti prompted the need for increased liberty restrictions here, Camp Lemonnier personnel attended a religious service in downtown Djibouti. Navy Lt. Francis Okoli, a Catholic chaplain on Camp Lemonnier, and Bishop Giorgio Bertin, appointed bishop to Djibouti and an apostolic administrator for Somalia, conducted a Roman Catholic mass for Camp Lemonnier-stationed members and their Djiboutian counterparts inside the main Catholic church of Djibouti - Cathédrale Notre-Dame du Bon-Pasteur de Djibouti, known in English as Our Lady of the Good Shepherd Cathedral.

The CJTF-HOA Religious Affairs Office led by Chaplain David Rodriguez, CJTF-HOA chaplain, worked with Bishop Giorgio Bertin, to make the amalgamation of parishioners arise once again. According to Rodriguez, the bishop - who is also a contractor for the installation and occasionally conducts Catholic services here - sees the Roman Catholic members of Camp Lemonnier as part of his flock. "The hope is that we will build up the relationships we already have with the Djioutians," said Okoli.

The chaplains of CJTF-HOA and those from the African Command have been lead agents in forging bonds with local religious leaders and facilitating communication across divides. We applaud chaplains and those who support them as they seek to bring people together in a very divided world.

Seeking Pastor

First Presbyterian Church
Fort Lauderdale, FL

First Presbyterian Church (FPC), Fort Lauderdale, FL needs a Head of Staff/Senior Pastor.

FPC founded in 1912 is situated in a rich historical, but growing neighborhood. FPC is looking for a pastor with skills in preaching to the young and elderly.

Especially needed is a Bible-believing, people-person with strong organizational and leadership skills.

Fort Lauderdale is nicknamed the "Venice of America."  No sea duty is required in this opportunity, but a facet of the membership is very nautical-friendly and a significant percentage of the local economy depends on nautical activity.
