Exciting News from Historic Kailua Village!
  June 2017
First Impressions Count

Residents and visitors shopping along Alii Drive are often swayed by first impressions. A welcoming entrance makes a difference and can help boost business. On a recent walk through Historic Kailua Village several businesses were noted for putting their best foot forward including Sandal Stop in Alii Sunset Plaza, Just Ukes, Ocean Beauty and Chantal's Skin Care and Day Spa in the Kona Inn Shopping Village, and Red Time Realty at the Kona Alii condominium just to name a few. Stop by and say hi, but better yet, shop and buy local.
Looking Good

Another shout out to Memory Lane on Kuakini Highway for doing a very good job of landscaping their storefront location with brilliant color.

King Kamehameha Day Celebration Parade

Hoohiwahiwa No Kamehameha translates as Honor Kamehameha and is the theme for the annual King Kamehameha Day Celebration parade in Historic Kailua Village on Saturday, June 10. The parade starts at 9:00 am near the Royal Kona Resort and travels down Alii Drive and then up to Kuakini Highway. The floral parade features hula halau, mounted pau riders with festive lei, marching bands and even a horse drawn carriage. After the parade enjoy a hoolaulea music and art festival at Hulihee Palace. Kailua Village BID thanks all those who work tirelessly to bring this magnificent parade to the Village.
Kokua Kailua Afternoon Stroll

And here is yet another opportunity to stay active, reduce stress and engage socially in Historic Kailua Village. Our popular Kokua Kailua afternoon stroll on Alii Drive returns on Sunday, June 11 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm when Historic Kailua Village becomes a festive, pedestrian-only (leashed dogs are welcome too!) outdoor marketplace. Expect a fun family day atmosphere. Don't forget to stop in at Hulihee Place at 4:00 pm for an hour-long free and inspirational musical afternoon on the seaside lawn.
