A Look Forward to What's in Store for 2018 - Meet our Committee Chairs
Part Two

IACP Executive Vice President Cynthia Blankenship, Esq.
A Message from Your Executive Vice President Cynthia Blankenship, Esq.

IACP thanks you for the incredible energy and the messages we've received from you on about last week's articles:  Monday's first installment, Tuesday's second installment and Wednesday's third installment of "A Look Back on Accomplishments and New Programs in 2017, a Look Forward to What's in Store for 2018 and a Visual Look Forward to 2018."  We're are excited to share more about what our amazing and dedicated Committee Chairs have to say out their programs and committees!

As IACP's Executive Vice President (EVP) my commitment to  return IACP to a member-driven organization and to increase transparency remains strong. It is still incredibly vital to me that IACP hear directly from IACP Members what you need to succeed. As an organization, it also is critical that IACP be transparent, communicating clearly with you what programs we would be creating and implementing per your feedback.  In that transparency we wanted you to hear it directly from our Committee Chairs what they are excited about, why they got involved and what they have accomplished.

As we continue to share our second in the series of conversations with you, here is the second of several Committee Chair testimonials on what I've discussed in our recent articles! As always, we want to continue receiving your feedback. Email us any time at [email protected], or call us at 281.933.8400.
IACP is so pleased and thankful for our IACP Committee Chairs and members.

They have answered the call to help lead this organization by driving the committee agendas pursuant to the IACP Strategic Plan.

Our Committee Chairs put their hearts and souls into making IACP a
member-driven organizationThey are creative, passionate and outright amazing!

We are going to be sharing our conversations with our Committee Chairs with you this week so you can see the energy, the passion and the drive they have.

We hope they inspire you as much as they inspire us!

A Conversation with Shawn Hodges, IACP Vice President and Chair of the PAC Committee

What have you enjoyed most about being chair?
I thoroughly enjoy listening to my fellow colleagues' perspective and ideas on how to strengthen our PAC Committee.  I'm in constant awe by the committee member's level of intelligence, and the experience they bring to the table.

What were your biggest accomplishments in 2017? (Committee accomplishments)
Our biggest accomplishment was that we helped contribute to get HR 2871 introduced last year...while we were at CCH!  The PAC helped execute the strategy developed by IACP Board and Legislative committee to ensure that our organization's mission and vision are executed.  It was a proud moment for us.

What are you most excited about for 2018?
Our PAC Committee has more than doubled in 1 year!  This is extremely encouraging.  I believe the IACP membership is starting to see that advocacy is the only real way to help protect our profession as well as our pharmacy practices.

How much input do you feel your IACP Committee has?
As we are a Political Action Committee (PAC), we have more autonomy than any other IACP Committee.  It allows us to quickly make decisions and adjust our strategy to further help IACP to fulfill its mission and vision.  The Committee members come with a breadth of experience and backgrounds, that help tremendously in how we are to support our Congressman that are pro-compounding.

How valuable are the members of your IACP Committee?
I can't overstate how important our PAC Committee members serve.  They are the ones that interface with Congressmen, and message IACP's issues and "asks".  Many times, the PAC Committee members serve as the face of the Academy from the Congressman's eyes, and our committee team members always do a great job in expressing IACP's wishes!

Why did you decide to get involved with IACP Committees?
IACP's Mission and Vision resonated with me since Day 1.  Looking at the mission of the Academy, the organization exists to Protect, Promote, and Advance the compounding profession. I felt compelled to help the organization to fulfill this mission.  Pharmacy compounding, in of itself, can be challenging. But when you add the complexity in regulations and those that enforce them, I felt that if we don't do something about it, our profession could become obsolete.

What advice do you have for your fellow IACP members to become more involved with their Academy?
I would simply advise that each member review the menu of committees and identify which committee(s) resonate with your skill sets. Once you've identified your choice committees, simply email the committee chair your questions and he/she will be happy to provide their insight on current committee activities.

A Conversation with Rich Moon Chair of the Fellowship Committee

What have you enjoyed most about being chair?
I really enjoy learning more about the candidates applying for Fellowship and the interactions with our peers is invaluable.

What were your biggest accomplishments in 2017? (Committee accomplishments)  It is a privilege and an honor to recognize individuals who are exemplary in their professionalism and commitment to the practice of pharmacy compounding, and we inducted several great new Fellows.

What are you most excited about for 2018?
It is exciting to see renewed interest in becoming a Fellow of IACP with the implementation of the updated guidelines. The opportunity for inducting more fellows and an expanding the program is a goal of the Committee.

How much input do you feel your IACP Committee has?
A great deal. The Committee reviews all the applications and gets to know the candidates and is instrumental in board recommendations.

How valuable are the members of your IACP Committee?
The members of the committee are invaluable. They provide insight and thoughtful review of the fellowship applications submitted.

Why did you decide to get involved with IACP Committees?
I felt I had something I could give back.

What advice do you have for your fellow IACP members to become more involved with their Academy?
"Make the call. Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game" - Babe Ruth

A Conversation with Bill Letendre, IACP Treasurer and Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee

What have you enjoyed most about being chair?
It has been an honor to serve my profession as the Treasurer of the Academy.  Keeping the organization's financial reports is an important piece of the management puzzle.  Without accurate financial information, it would be impossible to make judicious decisions affecting the organization.

What were your biggest accomplishments in 2017? (Committee accomplishments)
For the second year in a row we reported a surplus of revenues.  In spite of the contraction of the industry, the staff and elected leaders were able to right size the organization and implement frugal spending decisions to accomplish this.

What are you most excited about for 2018?
We have new revenue sources that will have a positive impact on our financial position by the end of the year.  I look forward to greater support by our corporate members and from our membership in general.

How much input do you feel your IACP Committee has?
The Finance Committee has a great deal of influence since we provide budget guidelines that must be adhered to by all of the other committees as they carry out their responsibilities.

How valuable are the members of your IACP Committee?
] The Finance Committee members are for the most part small business owners who must management the financial position of their pharmacies.  Using their talents to help guide the organization has been immensely beneficial.

Why did you decide to get involved with IACP Committees?
I have been an active member of this industry for 35+ years.  It is a small token of my appreciation for all that it has done for me professionally that I gladly give of my time for the Academy.

What advice do you have for your fellow IACP members to become more involved with their Academy?
You will always get more out of your involvement than you will ever have to put into it.  There is no better satisfaction then to join your colleagues for the good of the industry.

A Conversation with Scott Popyk Chair of the Reimbursement Committee

What have you enjoyed most about being chair?
Being a chair has kept me connected with the issues and challenges facing our industry and the people who are frontline in addressing those things.

What were your biggest accomplishments in 2017? (Committee accomplishments)
Foremost, IRC's charter is to keep the Board of Directors aware of payment related matters affecting the industry. We have consistently done this all year (2017).  The Committee continuously monitored and reported to the IACP Board of Directors regarding reimbursement related matters within the PBM realm.

What are you most excited about for 2018?
A revised global vision for IACP.

What advice do you have for your fellow IACP members to become more involved with their Academy?
If you don't do it, no one else will!! Life is about seasons; when the season is right, clear space in your professional itinerary and jump in.

We heard your requests to update IACP events and implement new programs! In 2018, we are going to debut new programming at all IACP events!
  • Debuting New Programs and Events to Recognize Members: Your Education Committee, led by IACP President-elect Jennifer Burch, has worked diligently to choose speakers who address your specific content requests, and has implemented new programs recognizing IACP Members and IACP Corporate Members. We hope you enjoyed our new programs at January's Educational Conference! We were so pleased to recognize several IACP Members and Corporate Members during the January 2018 Educational Conference held in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
  • Creating New Events: We also created the inaugural President's Gala as a festive way to install our Board of Directors, and to recognize Committee Chairs. The President's Gala along with IACP Board Chair Baylor Rice's monthly member articles have been provided to help clarify IACP's fundraising efforts, and how the Academy applies your dues to achieve the activities and goals you've indicated are important.
