Adventure Awaits at Artscape 2017!

Details have been announced for Artscape, America's largest free arts festival, returning to Baltimore Friday, July 21 through Sunday, July 23 on Mount Royal Avenue and North Charles Street. This year’s festival is headlined by legendary r&b/funk artist Sheila E. on Friday, July 21 at 7:30pm, Gypsy punk group Gogol Bordello on Saturday, July 22 at 7:30pm and soul group Robert Randolph & The Family Band on Sunday, July 23 at 6:30pm on the Artscape Main Stage. With the theme of “Camp Artscape: Adventure Awaits,” Artscape includes a complete schedule of visual and performing arts, large scale art installations and activities for the whole family, 100% free and open to the public. Q. What, in your opinion, makes BOPA different from most organizations?
A. ..how we are able to offer a path of potential growth for artists through the funding and opportunities that we offer. For example, an artist might have a solo show at School 33 and realize a lot of new concepts and ideas through that experience, while gaining a diverse audience for their work. Then they might decide to apply for Artscape and get a little bit of funding to make a project that can be seen and experienced by thousands of people...

Light City 2018 is set to take place Saturday, April 14 through Saturday, April 21, 2018. The following Calls for Entry are now open:
BGE Light Art Walk: for artists who wish to have works featured in the 2018 festival along the BGE Light Art Walk at the Inner Harbor. The deadline for proposals is Monday, July 31, 2017.
Neighborhood Lights Community Expression of Interest: Light City seeks neighborhood partners to participate in Neighborhood Lights 2018, taking place Friday, April 6 through Sunday, April 8, 2018, with some installations on view for a longer period. Neighborhood partner proposals are due Monday, July 2, 2017.

Baltimore Book Festival

Arts and cultural organizations can apply to have their event featured or receive funding to offer a free program or event during Free Fall Baltimore October 1-31, 2017.
The events can range from free concerts, dance and theater performances, festivals, lectures, workshops, art exhibitions, tours and more.
Applications are due by Friday, June 30, 2017 for organizations to receive funding.

2017 Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize finalists exhibition is now open! The finalists for this prestigious $25,000 prize have their work on view at The Walters Art Museum
through Sunday, August 13. The winner will be announced during a public award ceremony and reception on
Saturday, July 15 at 7pm. The finalists are:
Mequitta Ahuja, Mary Anne Arntzen, Cindy Cheng, Sara Dittrich, Benjamin Kelley, Kyle Tata and Amy Yee, all hailing from Baltimore, MD.

Baltimore’s Fourth of July Celebration
presented by Ports America Chesapeake kicks off
Tuesday, July 4 from 7pm to 10pm.
Live music from the U.S. Navy Band Commodores at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater starts at
7pm, followed by the
fireworks show, choreographed to music, at
9:30pm. The fireworks are visible from several locations downtown and in surrounding areas, including the special
Picnic at the Top event, held at the
Top of the World Observation Level.

Art @ Work, the five-week mural artist apprenticeship program for young people returns for the summer
June 26 through July 29, 2017. BOPA is teaming up with Jubilee Arts & 901 Arts to bring Art @ Work to the neighborhoods of Reservoir Hill and Waverly. Throughout the summer, groups of young people between the ages of 14-21 team up with teaching artists to create public murals and mosaics throughout the two neighborhoods.

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is the city's arts council, events center and film office.
BOPA is able to do all of its programs thanks to the support from a variety of public and private funders/donors.
