Second Career, Second Calling to the Church
This is the fourth story in a series of bios on our latest ordinations and installations.

Since one of his parents was a Mormon and the other an Episcopalian, the Rev. John E. Day had an option of which faith to step into; however, he felt called into the Episcopal Church, which he attended in Salt Lake City growing up.

Even though he "chose" the Episcopal Church, Day said that the ministry really became "a second career" for him, and now he has "two 20-year careers under (his) belt."
Day's first position was as a commercial banker, and after his first 20-year stint at this particular job, Day felt lead to attend seminary in 1988 at CDSP in Berkeley, where he obtained a Master of Divinity in 1991. He was ordained to the priesthood in December of that year.
After graduating, Day began his second career in the Diocese of Utah, where he served at the Cathedral Church of St. Mark. A few years later, Day moved to the Diocese of Los Angeles where he held the position of rector for 10 years at St. George's,
La Cañada Flintridge.
In 2010, Day moved into the Diocese of San Joaquin, where he was the priest-in-charge of both the Church of the Saviour, Hanford, and St. John's, Tulare.
About a year ago, Day moved into the Diocese of Northern California where he did supply work with the now retired Rev. Bill Adams.
Day said he hopes to pursue "a real focus on congregational development and church growth" at his latest parish of Holy Trinity, Ukiah, where he was installed as priest-in-charge on May 12.
In addition to his various positions and two "careers," Day remains an Honorary Canon in the Diocese of Los Angeles and worked as a chaplain in New York after 9/11.

In the Aurora on June 13, 2017, two clergy transitions were incorrectly stated. The rector of Trinity, Sutter Creek, has not yet retired and no interim is in place. The
vestry is considering next steps.
The Rev. Karen F. Siegfriedt will be retiring from her position as rector on Aug. 1, 2017.
At Incarnation, Santa Rosa, the correct announcement is "
Priest-in-charge (the Rev. James Richardson) will be departing in March 2018; parish profile underway."

Pathways on Social Media & Prayers Requested
On Sunday, June 18, about 45 young people and adults from around the Diocese of Northern California embarked on Pathways 2017, the annual diocesan youth pilgrimage now in its second year.
As Episcopalians, we know that God calls us all to be reconcilers, "repairers of the breach" (Isaiah 58:12). With that in mind, the aim of the pilgrimage is to journey together while our diocesan youth learn new things about addressing the many kinds of breaches that need to be repaired right here in our region.
Building on what was learned last year about reversing our history of racial and ethnic injustices, Pathways 2017 will be focusing on issues of environmental and agricultural justice. The event will be based at the Episcopal Conference Center of Oakhurst (ECCO), with trips to visit Yosemite and important sites of agricultural history in Delano and Allensworth.

Please pray for Pathways - that God would ready all attending to learn and be shaped into effective instruments for reconciliation in the world, and for safe travels and a spirit-filled community for the rest of the week. Summer Camper Scholarships - Final Deadline June 29
Summer camper scholarships in the amount of $200 are still available to children and youth on a first-come, first-served basis to be used for
Camp Living Waters, Camp Galilee, Bishop's Ranch and St. Dorothy's Rest.
Congregational leadership members, the form to request a scholarship is available
here. Congregations will be responsible for verifying that each child is eligible and for distributing the scholarships.

Help Keep Neighborhoods Safe During Our Heat Wave
St. Luke's 'Heat Wave Water Ministry'
As temperatures rise above 100 degrees for consecutive days,
St. Luke's, Woodland, will be delivering water to the local parks for individuals who have no place for respite from the heat. On Sunday, St. Luke's provided
iced water bottles to 75 of their homeless neighbors.
If you are out and about today, please consider dropping off a case of bottled water on the rectory porch.
If you are unable to manage a case of water, St. Luke's is accepting donations for ice and to purchase additional water. Ice costs about $11 per day. Checks can be made out to St. Luke's. Please write "Water Ministry" in the memo line.

Trinity Cathedral's 'Cooling Center'
Trinity Cathedral has agreed to the City of Sacramento's request that
they become a designated cooling center during the current heat wave. Doors will open from 1-6 p.m, Tuesday - Friday of this week and probably next Monday, June 26, depending upon the weather. If needed, the Cathedral will also be open for cooling on the weekend from 2-6 p.m.
The city opens cooling centers when the temperature exceeds 105 degrees. Managing a cooling center is fairly easy. Trinity Cathedral will supply a place (their Great Hall) to sit, drink water and use restroom facilities. If a medical emergency arises, they will call 911. Trinity needs at least one person in a supervisory position in the Great Hall at all times the Center is open. (Bring a book, tablet or laptop, if you wish.)

All Saints' Rector Paul Blanch Moving to England
Rector Paul Blanch of
All Saints', Redding, will be moving back to England in August. Blanch stated that his last day at All Saints' will be Sunday, Aug. 27, where he will preside and preach at all liturgies.
The following day, he and his wife Maggie will be flying to the UK, where
Blanch will be serving
as Vicar of the United Benefice of Kirton in Holland, Algarkirk and Fosdyke in the Diocese of Lincoln.

Rector Sara Potter Announces Newest Family Member
The Very Rev. Sara L. Potter, together with her husband Aaron Hohl and
children, Jonah and Miriam, are pleased to share the news of the adoption of their son Michael. Michael's adoption was finalized on May 23 at the Humboldt County Courthouse, in Eureka. His baptism took
place at
St. Alban's, Arcata
on June 4 - the feast of Pentecost.

World Refugee Day 2017 - Today
"In the name of Mary, Joseph and the Lord Jesus, aid all refugees today, for most of the refugees like the Holy Family themselves, are families, and most are children," said Presiding Bishop Michael Curry in his 2017 World Refugee Day Message. "I invite you to observe June 20 as World Refugee Day to learn more about the crisis and to find ways that you can both pray and help in other ways." The full 2-minute message is available here.

is the joint statement issued by Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Please consider joining us in prayer and fasting on the 21st (Wednesday, June 21, this week) of each month through December 2018, at which time the 115th Congress will conclude. The 21st was selected because 90% of the SNAP (food stamp) benefits across the nation are used up each month by that date. More ways to help include writing letters and making phone calls to your representatives to request that they support funding for SNAP, Meals on Wheels and school lunch programs.
