Roxbury Honors Top Students in Graduating Class of 2017
The Roxbury High School honored the top ten students in the class of 2017 on June 8th. These students will graduate with the highest academic averages this year. In addition to the students, the district recognized the teachers those students felt contributed most to their educational success. Parents of the honorees were invited to accompany their children to a dinner and reception in the dining hall at Roxbury High School.
Honored students and teachers shared kind words, best wishes, a few memories and tears, and thanks to each other for the impact they have had on each other's lives and the Roxbury community.
Click here to see which students and teachers were honored at this year's Top 10.
Roxbury Seniors Honored at Awards Ceremony
The Roxbury High School Annual Senior Awards Ceremony was held on June 7th in the high school auditorium. One hundred and thirty-four seniors from the Class of 2017 were invited to attend the program where they were recognized for academic achievement, college scholarships and numerous scholarships offered by both local and national organizations.

Google Expeditions -- iPod Touch or iPhone Requests
The Roxbury School District is working to bring Google Expeditions to our students. In order to help with this effort, the Technology Department is asking if anyone has any old iPod Touches or iPhones they are not longer using anymore that they would be willing to donate to the district.
Have you Signed Up to Play a Musical Instrument Next Year?
Just a reminder to all incoming 6th and 7th grade students in the 2017/2018 school year it's not too late to play an instrument if you aren't already involved.
Students who are already in band or orchestra don't need to submit a form - this is for brand new students only!

A 'Massive Success,' Roxbury Color Fun Run Raises $12,000
The June 11 Roxbury Color Fun Run raised about $12,000, money that will be used by the Kindness for Christopher organization to help fund projects in Roxbury, said Roxbury Rotary Club member Steven Alford.
Alford said the event was "a massive success" that also served as a community memorial for Michael Katzenberger, a well-known Kenvil man who died June 8 at 50 years old. The Color Fun Run, organized by the Roxbury High School Interact Club, was dedicated to Katzenberger. "Michael's family came to help us all grieve and to heal together," Alford said.

Roxbury Track Updates:
Track athletes' long journey leads to Greensboro
Roxbury will send 11 athletes to Greensboro - including the girls championship 4x400 and sprint medley, and junior Kevin Sembrat in the championship 400 meters - fueled in part by about $2,600 in small online contributions. Coach Laura Schmidt said the team exceeded its $6,000 goal in six weeks.
"As soon as the first person qualified" on May 9, the Gaels launched a GoFundMe campaign, and asked local businesses for donations.
"People were happy for us, that we could do so well and go so much faster in the past year," Roxbury senior Alexis Smith said. "It really motivates me. As the team captain, I feel like it's my responsibility to keep everyone going."
Because Nationals is not a NJSIAA-sanctioned meet, teams do not directly represent their schools and cannot be supported by them - though some get contributions from booster clubs.
This will be Roxbury's first relay at Nationals since the 2006 4xMile team won, setting the meet record that still stands. Smith called the quartet - Jenn Ennis, Lauren Penney, Kristen Stevens and Ariann Neutts - "the amazing girls."
"It's kind of surreal for them," Schmidt said. "They don't realize how big of a deal this is, and how good they are."

10th Annual Benefit Beach Blast - June 16 (rain date June 17)
Come join the Roxbury Arts Alliance, Roxbury Recreation Department and the Roxbury Police Department in celebrating our 10th annual fundraising event. Music, Horseshoe Lake fairgrounds, free kids activities, dunk tank, and food for purchase, ending the night with spectacular fireworks!
This is the only event that funds our scholarships to Roxbury graduates. Over $25,000 in scholarships given these past 19 years.
5th Annual Roxbury Town-wide Garage Sale - June 24-25
The Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to
announce that its 5th Annual Town-wide Garage Sale will take place during the weekend of
Saturday, June 24 and Sunday June 25, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., each day, throughout the
Township.
In 2016 this fundraiser, for the Chamber of Commerce, featured over 180 individual
garage sales-attracting hundreds of visitors to the Township for a great day of shopping.
The Chamber's goal is to attract as many shoppers and encourage as many garage sales
throughout the Township as possible during the weekend of June 24 and 25.
All garage-sellers are encouraged to register. Once again, there will be no fees (though donations
are welcome), no signs and no printed directories/maps to be handed out. We are simplifying the
event logistics so the Chamber can concentrate on promoting a fun-filled day of bargain hunting.
The Township's Mayor and Council have once again passed a resolution to waive the required
yard-sale permit for the weekend.
Live in a condo, an apartment, away on vacation? No problem, a Community Yard Sale at
Horseshoe Lake is scheduled for Saturday, September 23. Event details will be released in late
July for that event.
Annual carnival was a big success in Roxbury
For the 23rd year, the annual St. Therese Roman Catholic Church Summer Carnival at Horseshoe Lake provided fun and entertainment for people of all ages.
This year's event took place on Wednesday, June 7 and lasted through Saturday, June 10. The gates opened at 6 p.m. on all four nights and closed at 10 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
There were several different activities to choose from, with a boatload of rides, carnival games, face-painting, and food to sit down and enjoy. Children and young adults alike lined up to take a turn on the merry-go-round, bask in the glow of the setting sun at the top of the Ferris wheel, or ride down the big slide. The more adventurous ones dared to spin around on the tilt-a-whirl or giant loop roller coaster.

Annual Roxbury 5K, Sans Roxbury High School Seniors, Draws 600 Runners
90-degree weather didn't stop people from running in this year's Roxbury Community 5K on June 12, but maybe the Roxbury High School senior prom did.
About 600 people participated in the annual event, sweating their way through 3.1 miles of Succasunna roads, said race organizer Jim Schulz. There were about 20 more participants in last year's race, he said.
Schulz said the race raises about $7,000 per year. Proceeds go to Roxbury High School Project Graduation, the Roxbury Day Care Center, the Roxbury Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, the Roxbury Kiwanis Scholarship Fund and Roxbury Social Services.

Roxbury Applied Music Program
Mid-Year Registration for Grades 5-12
Roxbury's Applied Music Program is one of the most celebrated after school programs in the region. Blessed with award-winning music educators offering world-class instruction, the program nurtures local talent, empowering students to pursue careers in entertainment well after graduation.
This is a district-wide program that provides a high-quality enhancement to classroom instruction. Teachers are all specialists on their instrument or vocal specialty. All of our teachers are trained professional musicians and highly qualified in their instrument of expertise. Private study is extremely valuable to the individual student and highly encouraged. Private study is offered as enrichment, NOT remedial instruction. It is encouraged for the complete development of each students' potential as a performing musician and/or artist.
We are beginning mid-year registrations for those students interested in taking private lesson. Once the form and registration fee are received, your child will be assigned a weekly lesson time.

RHS Financial Literacy this Summer
The New Jersey Department of Education has mandated that all students are required to complete a course (2.5 credits) in Financial Literacy to be eligible for graduation. Due to the number of students requesting to take this course, we have decided to offer the class as an online summer course (we will continue to offer the traditional Financial Literacy course at Roxbury High School as well).
The course will be available to Roxbury High School rising juniors and seniors only during the summer of 2017. The course will begin on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 and run for approximately seven weeks. This interactive course will include writing assignments, labs, quizzes, and tests.
The final exam must be taken in person at Roxbury High School during the week of August 14, 2017. If the student does not fulfill all of the requirements for this class, no credit will be given and the appropriate grade will be listed on the student's transcript.
