This Week at BJBE

Dear Friends,
Be a part of the quorum and have a voice in the life of the congregation! Join your BJBE community at the Annual Meeting this evening. To highlight our partnership with Glenkirk, they will be staffing the Beit Cafe starting at 6:30pm. The meeting will start at 7:00pm with reports and opportunities to vote on the 2017/18 budget and board slate. There is always an interesting and informative Q & A. We need 100 adult members for a quorum.

Please join us Friday evening for Leadership Shabbat, including the installation of the 2017/18 Board of Trustees, Sisterhood Board and SYG Board. We also will be celebrating a special moment in the life of our synagogue as we dedicate our beautiful new Torah mantles.
 
BJBE is pleased to be the host congregation for the JUF panel discussion, "Parenting in the Age of Social Media: Focus on Netflix 13 Reasons Why" on Sunday, June 11.

This Saturday, we look forward to celebrating the Bar Mitzvah of Dylan Alexander at the morning service and the Bar Mitzvah of Beau Rosin at the Havdalah service. Mazel tov to Dylan and Beau. We also wish to extend a mazel tov to Brooke Blumenfeld and her family on becoming a Bat Mitzvah in Israel.

BJBE Annual Meeting, Monday, June 5. In partnernship with Glenkirk, enjoy coffee and snacks at the Beit Cafe at 6:30pm followed by the meeting at 7:00pm. Be involved in the life of the congregation by hearing updates on important activities, voting on the 2017/18 budget and Board slate, and participating in Q & A. Join our merry band of "mature" members and friends for brunch and a showing of Moonlight with d iscussion led by Dick Adler. Moonlight was the surprise best picture at the Academy Awards, also winning best supporting actor and best adapted screenplay. $18 per person for BJBE Members, $20 for guests. RSVP by June 15. YOUTH PROGRAMS
BJBE is committed to meeting the needs of our children of all ages. To keep our tweens and teens engaged with Judaism throughout their middle and high school years, we offer opportunities for sacred friendship, connection, learning, social action, leadership, travel and fun. Our programming is on break for summer while many of our teens are away at camp or traveling - however, keep your eyes here or check our website for fall events!

SERVICES    
Leadership Shabbat & Torah Mantle Dedication, Friday, June 9, 7:30pm

Shabbat mornings feature our
Kol Shabbat Service at 9:30am followed by Torah Study at 11:00am. Cantor Frost will lead Torah Study this Saturday. 
 
Wednesday Morning Minyan :   Begin your day in a beautiful and powerful way by attending our Wednesday morning Minyan from 6:45am to 7:15am. Each week we pray in the intimate space of the Chapel with a supportive, welcoming group. Experience a prayer service grounded in communal song, thought-provoking liturgy, and deep silence, followed by camaraderie over bagels and coffee. Morning Minyan participants have commented that this worship has connected to their lives in many unexpected and transformative ways. For more information, contact 
Cantor Green. The weekday prayer melodies are available here, although all are welcome to attend regardless of musical or prayerbook knowledge.

DAYTIME AT BJBE  
Monday Canasta/Mahjong: The Sisterhood will host Canasta and Mahjong games weekly at 1:00pm. All are welcome to join in the fun. To participate, RSVP to Sharon Krivitzky and let her know which game you will be playing and if you can bring supplies.

ednesday Morning Minyan:  Our weekday morning Minyan meets i n the BJBE Chapel from 6:45 - 7:15am. Talmud Study meets immediately after the service. For more information, contact Cantor Green.The weekday prayer melodies are available here.
 
Thursday Tai Chi Chu'an: We offer a weekly Thursday morning Tai Chi class led by Dr. Drew Serlin at 7:30am.  There is no charge for these classes.
SOCIAL ACTION NETWORK
We are collecting toiletries, batteries, hearing aids, eyeglasses, ink cartridges, and cell phones. Thank you for your generous donations.  
We are NOT collecting used clothing at this time.

SHALVA  
SHALVA is the oldest independent, Jewish domestic abuse agency in the United States. They have been instrumental in facilitating national and international dialogues on the specific needs of Jewish families experiencing domestic violence. SHALVA carries out its mission by working to create Shalom Bayit, peace in the home. For 30 years, SHALVA has strived to break the cycle of abuse. 
CARING COMMUNITY 
BJBE's Caring Community is a team of volunteers who can act as your extended family when your family needs additional support.  Caring Community provides the following services: home delivered meals in times of need, transportation to/from temple or a medical appointment, phone support for people who are ill or lonely, senior education and caregiver support, chicken or vegetable soups (always available in the kitchen!) and a virtual food pantry.  To access these services confidentially, please call Gloria Kaiz at 847-945-3741.

The Caring Community and CJE Senior Life are pleased to offer individual appointments at no charge with Senior Health Insurance Counselor Esther Craven. Esther has over 25 years of experience at CJE. As a benefits specialist, she offers assistance and advocacy in areas of Medicare, health insurance and resources for retirement. Individual appointments with Esther are available at BJBE on Monday, June 12, 3:00 - 6:30pm. Please email  Phyllis Pearlman or call her in the temple office at 847.940.7575.

BJBE is certified as a Safer Synagogue by Jewish Community Abuse Resources, Education & Solutions (JCARES). Our leadership has been trained in understanding the impact of abuse across the lifespan and improving access to support for congregants experiencing abusive situations. JUDAICA (GIFT) SHOP     
Stop by the Judaica Shop to see the new wall and shelf art by Gary Rosenthal, including chais and hamsas for your home. We have some new tzedakah boxes for baby gifts, candles from Safed and a lot of new mezuzahs for the home. And take a look at our "love" sculpture for wedding glass shards-a beautiful piece at a very low price!

The Judaica Shop is open Fridays 30 minutes prior to and following Friday night services, Wednesdays 1:00pm-3:00pm, Sundays during the summer when the building is open 9:30am-11:30am, and always by special appointment by calling Lynne at 847-215-1357.
