Students Show GGUSD Pride in Annual Tet Parade
More than 100 high school students joined members of the GGUSD Board of Education in the Little Saigon Tet Parade on February 17. Students showed off their school spirit while celebrating the Lunar New Year and their pride in being part of the Vietnamese community. Marching bands from McGarvin Intermediate School and Rancho Alamitos and Pacifica high schools also took part in the parade.
Youth in Government Day
On February 15, GGUSD and the City of Garden Grove came together to present Youth in Government Day for the first time since 1993. The event saw more than 60 students assume mock government roles, including six students who served as city council members and one student who was chosen as honorary mayor. Congrats to mayor-for-a-day Pacifica High School student Cody Tran for leading the mock city council meeting. Click here for more.
Excelsior Elementary School students enjoyed wearing clothing that represents their heritage during the school's Lunar New Year Celebration last week.
Crosby Elementary School hosted a festive Lunar New Year Celebration for students and families. Students enjoy being part of the traditional dragon dances.
TEA FOR TWO
Enders Elementary School kindergarten students invited their moms to come for a Valentine Tea. Students and their moms were served iced tea and lemonade in real tea kettles and decorated cookies.
Family Technology Night

Students showed off their technology expertise during Gilbert Elementary School's recent Family Technology Night. Students loved learning "tech-gether." At GGUSD, we believe in providing many opportunities for parents to engage in their child's education.
Employees of the Month
Congratulations to Clinton Elementary School sixth grade teacher Teresa Jackson and Patton Elementary School secretary Stephanie Castellano for being selected as February Employees of the Month. These two exceptional employees were recognized at the Board of Education Meeting on February 20.
Jason Oda is  #GGUSDHomegrown

Jason attended Allen Elementary, Irvine Intermediate, and is a 1993 graduate of La Quinta High School. He is currently the Activities Director and a Science Teacher at his alma mater.

“GGUSD is my community and home. The more I can relate to the students, the better I can teach them. The more the students can relate to me, the better to inspire them. I feel comfortable in the district. I fit in here, as it is my home. I know the neighborhood and the community. Old classmates' and friends' children are in my classroom.”

Jason has been a GGUSD employee for over 13 years.
Board of Education in Action
GGUSD's Board of Education is made up of five elected trustees who establish policies and chart the direction of our school district. While the trustees are elected to represent areas of the district’s 28 square miles, all board members work together to serve the entire school district and its more than 43,000 students. The district created a video to introduce you to your Board of Education members and share with you some of their goals and accomplishments.
