Thank you to the 166 people who responded to our recent survey about offering a Clinical Research Professional Conference in partnership with the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Association for Clinical Research Professionals (PNWACRP). We are proud to offer this new conference on Monday October 2, 2017 at Volney Auditorium at Virginia Mason Medical Center.
The newest of NWABR's conference lineup will address:
- Communication for successful trials (site qualifications, start-up, ongoing activity and closeout)
- Legal & Regulatory updates, e.g., single IRB and new rule, ICH E6 (R2)
- Sponsor or FDA audits
- Building and retaining quality programs, e.g., handoff's, amendments
- E-consent and reconsent

It has been more than 35 years since the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was identified. Hard won, grassroots community activism led to formal research efforts to treat and prevent HIV/AIDS. Anti-retroviral therapies have saved millions of lives and the drug Truvada, a Pre-Exposure Prophylaxix (PrEP) medication, has begun to curb the spread of the virus as well. NWABR Celebrates the 2017 Student Bio Expo Winners
The 17th Annual NWABR Student Bio Expo was held on Friday May 19, 2017 at Shoreline Community College. NWABR's Student Bio Expo is a yearlong program that provides a platform for students to learn about and showcase their knowledge of biotechnology, biomedicine and bioethics.There were 324 students participating from 22 Puget Sound schools with 110 science mentors and 65 Judges. It was another great year for the Student Bio Expo!

2017 Middle School Essay, Poster and Video Contest Winners!
Congratulations to student awardees for our Middle School Contest! These kids created incredible reflections on the value of biomedical research in their (and our) everyday lives. They are celebrated today, June 6th, with cash prizes, a tour of labs at Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI) and a careers panel talk.
Students entering 6th-8th grade were invited to examine a medical therapy or treatment that a loved one, pet, or they themselves have received. Students competed on themes of Animal Research Saves Lives, Animal Research Helping Animals, or Advancements in Medical Biotechnology and created an essay, poster, or video highlighting their findings.
Thanks to Contest Sponsors and Supporters Knossos Foundation, Zymogenetics/Bristol Myers Squib, Lee Schoentrup (IDRI) and all judges and teachers who encouraged these students.
