Athletic Awards Banquet 2017

On Tuesday, May 16, the E. D. White Catholic High School Athletic Department honored senior athletes in all sports at the Sports Convocation. Two awards are presented per sport, the permanent team captain's award and the most valuable attitude award. Team members vote on both awards.  The desired qualities that the EDW program stands for such as leadership and attitude are rewarded in hopes that a player's priorities will be shifted to unselfish attitudes and team goals. The EDW Athletic Department Scholar Athletes were Michae Jones and Michael Melancon.

Senior Honors Convocation

(From left) James Winston Ardoin, II, Sloane Marcello Clay, Phillip Michael Foret, Rachael Pauline Hopkins, and Eliza Jane Zeringue were named Valedictorians for the class of 2017 at the Senior Honors Convocation. All five students earned a weighted GPA of 4.52.

James Winston Ardoin, II, son of David and Dr. Anne Ardoin, was named the Outstanding Graduate of the Class of 2017. The Outstanding Graduate Award is the highest award, and it goes to the graduate who best exemplifies the spirit and purpose of the school.  The faculty members who know and who have worked with the seniors vote on the recipient.  The following categories are considered:  character, scholarship, service, school spirit, and leadership.

Claire Elizabeth Boudreaux received the Sisters of Mount Carmel Charism Award. This award recognizes the graduate who exhibits a faith life that encourages her to give of herself to other students and to those in her civic and church parishes. Like Mary, a woman of simplicity and faith, the recipient brings hope and love into her world. Sr. Denis Rodrigue presented the award.

Thomas Noah Bergeron received the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Charism Award presented by Bro. Patrick McGinity, S.C. This award recognizes a student who reaches out in compassion to his fellow man, not only in prayer, but also in acts of service and support, thus furthering the presence of Christ in our world today.

The recipients of this award must be juniors in high school and inductees of National Honor Society. In addition, the students must demonstrate a sustained and sincere commitment to community service activities through their high school organizations.

Margaux Diebold was the recipient of the Tulane Book Award, which is awarded to one student at each high school in Louisiana. The recipients are selected based on talent, leadership, and academic achievement.

Randolph College in Lynchburg, VA seeks to acknowledge an outstanding high school junior student who is academically strong and possesses leadership potential. Teacher Highlight

Brandi Authement is pictured with her two daughters Kati and Kami on May 18 after being named the Brother Linus Teacher of the Year.  The award recognizes an educator who teaches in the tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart by setting clear, high, worthy, and profound expectations for themselves and their students.  Faculty members select the recipient of the award annually.  Two hallmarks of the tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart are personal attention and academic excellence.

It is Authement's 5th year teaching at E. D. White.  She teaches 8th grade Math and is the moderator of the National Honor Society and the Senior Class.  She has a BS in Accounting from Nicholls, Masters in Math Education from Western Governors University, and is currently working on her Masters in Educational Leadership from WGU.

Authement said, "Being selected as Teacher of the Year at E. D. White is truly a great honor. This award serves as validation of the efforts of any teacher who tries to do the best that they can, but more than anything, I am simply honored to be able to teach at this amazing school.  I feel as though everyone from administration to faculty members to maintenance to students have become my extended, and much cherished family.  In receiving this award, it has filled me with great pride and encourages me to continue to do my best to serve as an example to my daughters as well as others that hard work and perseverance has its own reward."

Past recipients of the award who are currently members of the EDW faculty/staff are Angie Knight, Mary Cavell, Andrea Hymel, Tim Robichaux, Kyle Lasseigne, Don Grabert, Shonie Morvant, Rebecca Pitts and Kris Guillot.
