DVB Member Offer For Connected TV World Summit 2018

A key theme at this year's Connected TV World Summit in London next month is how the television industry protects and grows its revenues in an increasingly competitive marketplace, something that requires broadcasters to maintain content supremacy, platform owners to further improve the user experience, and media companies to maximize the value of advertising across all screens. Among other things, the 2018 conference will explore the voice-driven upgrade in content discovery and the wider user experience that is coming, and which could prove to be a new competitive differentiator.

With advertising budgets under pressure due to competition from born-online digital media, a dedicated advertising session looks at how commercial broadcasters and platform operators can exploit new data-driven audience insights and the ability to target messages at a more granular level. It will also look ahead to how the industry normalizes advanced advertising so it can become an everyday proposition.

Until now, household-level addressable TV advertising, in particular, has been the work of pioneers and early-adopters in Europe, but as its impact is seen in revenue and profits, the whole TV industry will need to catch up. The session 'Opening up the market for advanced advertising', will explore new technologies that could help broadcast addressable TV advertising to 'break-out' beyond Pay TV ecosystems, and consider how the industry can minimize the complexity and cost associated with data-driven and targeted buying.

The Early Bird rate is only available until 23rd February. DVB Members benefit from an exclusive 15% discount on the delegate pass rate - please input DVB15 in the coupon box during the registration process to receive the discount.

Connected TV World Summit 2018 will feature some of the most acclaimed thought-leaders from international platform operators (Pay TV and free-to-air), broadcasters, channel/content owners and online service providers. By attending the event you will learn key insights that will help develop your future business plans.

For more information and to register, please visit the event website.
UHD - Features, Tests and Standardization Webinar

EBU Tech will host a webinar on UHD - Features, Tests and Standardization on 8 March at 15:00-16:00 (CET).

This webinar will cover Ultra-High Definition (UHD) Television and related technologies such as Higher Dynamic Range (HDR), Higher Frame Rates (HFR) and Next Generation Audio (NGA) in distribution.

What is the impact of Higher Frame Rates? What about Higher Dynamic Range? The German Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT) was involved in various subjective tests for HDR and HFR, and the IRT's Dagmar Driesnack will cover those findings in her presentation.

Both features are also included in the latest DVB receiver specification. DVB's chair of TM-AVC, Virginie Drugeon (Panasonic), will present on DVB's updated audio-visual coding specification, TS 101 154, which adds support for HDR, HFR and Next-Gen Audio.

Registration is required for the webinar. To find out how to register and for further information on the agenda, visit the EBU Tech website .

EBU Tech's BroadThinking 2018

The annual EBU BroadThinking seminar is set to take place on 27-28 March at the EBU headquarters in Geneva.  BroadThinking is the annual seminar where broadcast meets broadband and this year it is a key event for anyone interested in 5G, CDNs, streaming technology, interactivity and more.

Topics for this year's event include:  The Future of OTT Distribution; Audience Trends; Streaming Codecs; New Requirements with Smartspeakers, Personalization and Targeted Advertising; Mediaplayer Technologies and Standardized Metrics; and all things CDN: Multi-CDN, 5G and other Options.

The event is always topical. Last years's BroadThinking 2017 covered topics ranging from streaming technologies, front-end design, user-experience and strategic aspects of media delivery over broadband networks. It highlighted some of the major challenges still facing broadcasters and while new approaches to streaming significantly improve the experience for audiences and facilitate improved workflows, fragmentation and the coexistence of multiple standards are still major challenges.  The focus of the event coincided with the DVB's emphasis shifting from 'digitizing analog TV' to the 'transitioning of the broadcast industry to a hybrid, broadcast, broadband world'.

The BroadThinking seminars are usually sold-out events, so act now to register today. You can register here.
