CAN Connects. . . with you!
How our CAN authors have connected with you.

While at our local YMCA water aerobics class, one of my fellow classmates told me how much she loved my book, The Fabric of Hope: An Irish Family Legacy. Before long, a half-dozen others circled around me and told me the same. I asked them, "Who is your favorite character?" To my surprise, they all had different answers and began discussing their favorites and why. Well, our teacher let the conversation go on for about ten minutes before she broke it up and focused us on our workout, but what fun it was to hear the friendly banter about my characters!

Four days of unread emails awaited me when I returned home from the Colorado Christian Writers Conference. I discovered two emails from two mothers, both deeply affected and ministered to by my newest book  Messy Journey: How Grace and Truth Offer the Prodigal a Way Home. Writing is a solitary endeavor, but it's most powerful in the context of relationship. When I pour out my heart on the page, God takes that message to bless another's heart, and it's a blessing when we hear about it this side of heaven.

During UNITE 2016, I had the honor of being the keynote speaker for the BLOC ministry in Cincinnati, OH. Many of the women are single moms learning the skills to pull themselves and their children out of cyclical poverty. I had the pleasure of getting to know many of these ladies. We all felt a sisterhood because we recognized we all experienced harsh realities and are on a similar journey to overcome, reclaim dignity, and support ourselves and one another. I shared my testimony and then they began to share theirs one-on-one with me. I came home with a sense of community. This year, four more of our Christian Authors Network female authors will be sharing their life stories, and breaking into groups to teach the ladies how to do the same with other women they meet who also need Jesus to begin the journey of overcoming tragic circumstances and poverty. The seeds planted are going to yield a harvest of plenty...and some of those seeds are in our own hearts watered by those who minister to us in return. May the Lord mightily bless the Cincinnati BLOC event at UNITE 2017 and always!
CAN Connects Through Speaking!
Karen Whiting,
CAN treasurer

As treasurer of CAN, I'm always thrilled to share what our members do. Many travel to speak, present online in webinars, or share with book clubs on virtual calls. CAN speakers reach a wide audience and sometimes go to unusual places. Shelly Beach spoke at a Harley Bike Shop, to homeless populations, and in jails.

Some of our men speak to Iron Sharpens Iron Groups, in churches, and at men's retreats. Many of the women speak to women's groups and retreats. Children's authors often speak in schools and to parents, including MOPS groups. Others speak on university campuses, seminaries, and to mission focused groups. I've spoken to parents and children both at home and as far away as China. Many CAN members also travel abroad to speak.

We speak because we want to share the messages God has given us to bring hope to people everywhere. Cec Murphey says, "I want to hug people with my words." We pray that the audiences will be inspired and learn from us.

As member Dr. Lainna Callentine says, "When you speak...you are never completely sure how your message is translated. God has blessed us all here with our unique voices."

Jan Kern said, "I love the interaction with the various groups and am thankful for every opportunity." As CAN speakers, we all feel the way Jan does, so if you need a speaker for any event, check out our Speaker Bureau for a CAN speaker near you. http://christianauthorsnetwork.com/can-speaker-bureau/
