School Supplies Drive is On!

We now are collecting donations of school supplies to distribute to the approximately 500 qualifying children in need in our community. Partnering with Bridges Outreach, we will help these children start school with all needed supplies. Distribution takes place August 29-30. 
  
Baby Shower A Success

What a beautiful day! We are grateful for the beautiful clothing and tiny toppers that you lovingly brought, and the funds that you donated to buy more clothes to include in many new Layette bundles that we will assemble and deliver to help so many children start out clothed and loved.


Mary Virginia Merrick Award

Our Summit chapter assembled and delivered 385 layettes - that's an increase of 54% in a single year! In recognition of her work coordinating the teamwork, shopping, assembling and delivering all those layettes, Cheryl Mullery, Layettes Chair, received this year's Mary Virginia Merrick Award, given to an exemplary volunteer. 

Blankets for Babies

We started with 481.5 yards of fabric - enough to make 321 blankets. The numbers don't lie. At day's end, we had sewed 4,494 feet or 1,498 yards! At 1,760 yards in a mile, that makes .85 MILES OF SEWING. Adding the 53 blankets that need partial sewing (in process from last year) -- that is A MILE OF SEWING FOR THE BABIES!  

Helping Project Linus

Did you know that  some pieces of fleece left over after Blankets for Babies were used by Brayton Elementary's Student Council to make blankets for Project Linus? Our Theresa Sweeney and Brayton's  Ms. Senko helped students at Brayton make four blankets to send to Project Linus, a non-profit that provides homemade blankets to children in need. Project Linus blankets are lovingly made by adults and children from all walks of life and many different sources.

Volunteer Corner

Personal service is the hallmark of the Christ Child Society. We take a hiatus for the summer but please visit our Volunteer Page in the Fall to help with one of our many programs that reach out to children at risk. Whether you help behind the scenes making items for children you may never meet or in the front lines of our tutoring program, you will impact the life of a child.

Many thanks to all of you for making my first year as President of Christ Child of Summit such a wonderful experience!  Through your tireless dedication, we as a Chapter have contributed over 5,512 service hours in the local community and helped over 732 families.

A special note of thanks to some truly extraordinary women who will be stepping down from their leadership roles in our Chapter: Christina Amundson, Marianne DeSantis, Kathi Franolich, Sally Golding, Cheryl Mullery and Jane Murphy.  My sincerest thanks to all of them as they move on to champion new challenges. 


The Christ Child Society of Summit is a qualified 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to serving children in need in our community.  We are one of over 40 chapters of the National Christ Child Society, a non-profit organization founded in 1887 by Mary Virginia Merrick that is dedicated to serving the needs of children and youth, regardless of race or creed, through the personal service of its members.
