The Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS), wants to express its appreciation to the security officer who overheard a student threaten to open fire at El Camino High School in Whittier and to the deputies from Norwalk Station who worked with school officials to thwart the plot that was made just days after a deadly shooting in Florida. ALADS issued the following statement about the incident:
"The swift response by Los Angeles County deputy sheriffs from Norwalk Station to threats of a school shooting at El Camino High School is a reminder of the importance of school law enforcement partnerships. Acting on information from a school security officer who heard a juvenile say that he was going to shoot up the school sometime in the next three weeks, deputies were able to obtain and execute a search warrant and recover multiple weapons from the residence of the student who made the threat. The prompt response by everyone involved, averted a tragedy that we have seen occur too often. Law enforcement can do its job best when school authorities, students and parents share information about potential threats. As the association representing more than 7,900 Los Angeles County deputies and district attorney investigators, we are exceedingly relieved that deputies were informed in time to remove the guns from a potentially dangerous situation."
