New Church Officer Training
Over the summer our newly elected Elders and Deacons will be going through a training class with Pastor Jason.  The classes will meet at 8:30 am on the following Sundays: June 18, June 25, July 2, July 16.  All are welcome to join in these discussions.
WANTED
The Mission Committee needs someone to pack up the monthly Care Cart donations and deliver them to the designated non-profit.  This needs to be done during the week of the last Sunday of a month and before the first Sunday of the next month. Committee members will continue to check with the non-profit as to what is needed, place information in the church bulletin and the Communicator, label the cart, and put the information on the Mission Board.  As the Committee's three members are stretched to cover all of UPC's Mission activities, it would be extremely helpful if this chore could be shared.  Please tell Vi Baker, Wayne Karberg, or Nancy Lick if you feel called to help out with this important step.
Per Capita
Our Per Capita to the Presbyterian Church (USA) is based upon church membership, so for UPC our Per Capita bill is $7,279.40,$42.82 per member. We are asking each member to help cover the costs of Per Capita by submitting a check for the appropriate amount with Per Capita noted in the memo line. Thank you for your continued support of both our church and the PC (USA).

June Care Cart
The Laramie Youth Crisis Center (LYCC) is a community prevention program of the Cathedral Home for Children.  Its mission is "...to protect and preserve families by providing a variety of services which strengthen and help youth and their families build the skills they need."  LYCC provides emergency and shelter care for youth through the age of 17, a 24-hour hot line, and professional support for families.  It is an alternative to jail and detention for children who have committed less serious offenses.  It also provides a "time out" that prevents serious problems from escalating.  LYCC is open for service 24/7 throughout the entire year.  LYCC does not charge a fee for their services.   This year, LYCC is asking for our help in providing materials for youth activities. Please keep in mind that, as they do not serve many young children, items should be geared to ages 12 to 18.  Also, materials that represent violence and aggression should be avoided.   Suggestions: jigsaw puzzles,  books for tweens and teens,  erasable magic markers, erasable, crayons,  colored pencils,  craft kits, sketch pads,  watercolor paints, glue sticks,  construction paper.
International Student Giveaway
Don't Forget the International Student Giveaway:  Garage sales are abounding in Laramie every weekend.  Many folks who enjoy them on a sunny Friday or Saturday are reluctant to go because they don't need any more "stuff."  However, it's fun to go shopping for the International Student Giveaway that will be happening in two months.  Linens, quilts/blankets, kitchen items, and warm clothing are needed.  Nancy Lick, who definitely doesn't need more "stuff," goes when she can and usually spends about $4.00 on "good stuff."  This weekend she got 5 great winter jackets for 20ยข each and the lady threw in 2 can openers.  If you have things to donate, just leave them in Marcia's Closet and let Nancy know if you want a donation form for taxes.  Happy hunting.

Habitat for Humanity
Now is the time to volunteer for the upcoming adult mission trip to scenic Cheyenne.  The UPC Team will leave for Cheyenne after church on Sunday, July 30, 2017, to work with the home owners, Yovanna and Ossiel, on a build.  We'll be working from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  All levels of skill are needed from nail picker-uppers to trim finishers to painters.  We can thank Cheyenne's First Presbyterian Church's team for working on the exterior siding and installing the garage door on June 10.  Trip details will be provided as we receive more information from Habitat staff.  Please see either Jason Harshberger or Nancy Lick to sign up.
