The District includes over 250 miles of levees and drainage canals, and over 40 pump stations.

Bayou Dumar Levee Project Is Complete

NLLD contractor Low Land Construction completed repairs to the Bayou Dumar Levee in Raceland in May.

Work included stabilizing the eroded embankment and installing rip-rap along a 300-foot section of the levee east of Hwy 653 along the bayou. To build up the embankment,  Low Land placed material along the length of levee for approximately 500 feet from where it is impacted by the LA Hwy. 653 bridge crossing.

The Bayou Dumar Levee Project strengthens flood protection for residents in Raceland and nearby central Lafourche communities.

Flood Insurance Reform Is Focus of NLLD Meetings in Washington

NLLD Board of Commissioners President Cory Kief and Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois met with staff of key Congressional members early last week to talk flood insurance reform.

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is up for re-authorization this fall and the NLLD, as a member of the Louisiana Flood Risk Coalition, has made it a priority to do all we can to ensure that the flood insurance program is both sustainable and financially responsible. An affordable and dependable NFIP is critical to Lafourche residents and businesses who are at risk for flood losses.

Kief and Bourgeois met with Louisiana's Senators Kennedy and Cassidy, and Congressmen Scalise, Graves, Abraham and Higgins, as well as staff of several Senators and Congressmen who serve on committees that are considering NFIP reform and reauthorization.

State Legislature Approves 2017 Coastal Master Plan

Before adjourning the regular session in early June, the Louisiana Legislature approved the state's 50-year plan to protect and restore Louisiana's coast.

The 2017 Coastal Master Plan was passed unanimously through the State House and Senate with enthusiastic bipartisan support.

In all, the master plan outlines projects that cost, in present value, approximately $50 billion, including features of the Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection Project and other restoration and protection projects in Lafourche and Terrebonne.

You are Invited to Terrebonne Coastal Day - June 27th in Houma
