Samantha Vest - Guest Services Intern - Riley

This will be Samantha's senior year at IUPUI and she is studying Health Services Management. She was introduced to the House through her sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha, when they provided a meal for our families.

Open House for Beth Johnson

Beth's early days at the House!

Beth first joined the Ronald McDonald House in 1990 and  has   poured her heart and soul into "keeping families close" for over 27 years. We are grateful for her many years of service and wish her the best of luck in this next phase of her life!

Please join us on Wednesday, June 28, from 4-6 p.m. at the House on Limestone St. conference room as we say goodbye and celebrate Beth's many accomplishments at an Open House in her honor.

Saying Goodbye

We recently said goodbye to a longtime friend, Glenn Shubert, who passed away on May 20. Glenn started volunteering at Limestone in January of 1996 and was a Guest Services Volunteer with his wife of 62 years, Leah Shubert, until 2014. He will be missed.

Help Wanted

Guest Community Connections

Volunteers are needed to call families about 3-4 weeks after they have left the House on Limestone to check on their well-being. We have three short questions to ask them to see if we can be of any additional help connecting them with resources in their hometown. This involves calling about 5-10 families which will take about 20 minutes each month.

Chief Cheer Officer's Assistant

Mac, our Chief Cheer Officer, is looking for an "assistant" to  introduce him to houseguests and visitors during his office hours at Limestone, Monday through Friday between the hours of 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. As a puppy, Mac still receives training. His assistant will need to attend a one hour training session to help him follow commands and ensure the experience is positive for both the guests and Mac.

This is an ongoing position, so we need Mac's assistants to agree to a regular schedule, but not all 5 days each week. Assistants must have a history of dog ownership; previous experience attending obedience training is desired.

Please contact Mary Friend at [email protected] or at 317-267-0605, ext. 225 if you are interested in learning more about either of these opportunities.

Top 5 Mac Rules for the Front Office
  1. Mac should be constantly supervised and not allowed to roam the House unleashed. Please remember to keep the gate to the front office closed.
  2. By using specific commands, we are able to maintain consistency. Mac should not be allowed to get away with behaviors that are counter to his training. These commands are posted in the front office.
  3. Mac is free to be off leash while in the front office. He may greet guests from behind the closed gate for a quick pet. However, guests should not spend time with him in the office. If a family wants more time with Mac, please let the Manager on Duty know so this can be arranged.
  4. Under no circumstances should Mac be given human food or allowed in the kitchen/dining room areas.
  5. Mac is pretty good about staying out of things. If he is getting into the trash, pop tabs, or other items that don't belong to him, please correct him. The correct command for this is "leave it."

Yoga Anyone?

We are now offering complimentary yoga classes on the first Monday of each month from 7- 8 p.m. House guests, volunteers and staff are welcome to join. The next classes will be held on July 3 and August 7 so please join us! Thank you Kelly Alford from The Yoga Studio for your generous donation.

Mission Moment

"Thank you for helping us stay close to our newborn baby. We celebrated 12 1/2 days with him. Without your support, he would have been alone. Instead, his mom and dad were with him every day of his life!"

Operations Update - Limestone
  • A reverse osmosis filter system has been installed in both kitchens to provide purified drinking water. With this addition, we will be phasing out stocking bottled water in the pantries. As you're providing tours for new guests, please point out the new faucet for filtered water. A sign has been mounted behind each faucet to identify them.
  • The old craft room on the upper level of the north wing has been converted into a linen closet. Here you will find extra blankets, linen packets, cleaning buckets, etc.
  • Remember to check the Volunteer Need To Know binder when you arrive for your shift for the latest and greatest updates.

  Zoo Tickets Policy Update

Due to the Indianapolis Zoo's guidelines regarding the use of the deeply discounted tickets, they may only be purchased and used by houseguests. They will no longer be available for purchase by volunteers.

Look Who Was Caught Rolling Out The Red Carpet

Mary Friend recently caught  Andrew Scarlott, Volunteer Resources/Operations Intern, displaying cooperation, communication and teamwork.

Mary wrote: "Andrew is always ready, willing and able to take on additional projects to help around the House. He has even been known to come in over the weekend and volunteer for a 12 hour shift!"

Thank you, Andrew. You are appreciated!
