Eager fans were up before dawn to grab a front seat along the parade route. Estimates ranged as high as one million who turned out to pay tribute to their new champions. Golden State Warriors' owner Joe Lacob said the team will pay the city of Oakland four million dollars to cover the entire cost of the parade. Photo by Ed Jay. |

San Francisco Giants Update
|
Above, Giants catcher Buster Posey fouls off a pitch in the late innings against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, June 10. While the Giants offense failed to click on this day, Posey drove in one run in their 3-2 loss. As of Sunday evening, Posey leads all of Major League Baseball with a .352 batting average. San Francisco Giants Update:
While the Giants have had a miserable season so far, this week they outdid themselves. After a day off on Monday, the Giants managed to go 0-6 for the week. Not only is this the first time I've had to write about a winless week, this is also the longest losing streak of the year for the NL West's last place team. Starting at home against the Royals, the Giants offense sputtered while Ty Blach and Johnny Cueto each earned a loss; Blach allowed seven runs and 10 hits in just over 5.2 innings pitched and Cueto allowed five runs, too many for an offense as inconsistent as is the Giants. The team then traveled to Colorado for a four-game set against the Rockies, who have been on fire all season long. While their bats picked up in hitter-friendly Coors Field and Denver's thin air, the Giants lost some close ones, including two in walk-off fashion. Sunday afternoon's ending summarized the whole week, with Mark Melancon giving up four runs in the bottom of the ninth, including a three-run walk-off homer to Nolan Arenado. On Monday, the Giants will try to end the losing streak in Atlanta against the Braves.

Oakland A's
|
Oakland topped the visiting New York Yankees in their first of four games at the Coliseum in the tenth inning, 8-7, on Thursday evening, June 15. Contributing to the A's scoring, shortstop Adam Rosales doubled on a sharp ground ball to left field in the bottom of the second inning, plating Matt Chapman (26) and Josh Phegley (19), much to the delight of Chad Pinder (18). The A's Jharel Cotton was on the mound on Wednesday, June 7, for a beautiful matinee but Oakland would fall to the visiting Toronto Blue Jays, 7-5.
Cotton's quality start on Father's Day, Sunday, June 18, against the New York Yankees earned him his first win since May 4. Final score: Oakland 4, Yankees 3. The A's four-game home sweep of the Yankees was its first since July of 2012.

A's second baseman Chad Pinder studied video before Oakland took the field against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, June 6. His preparation paid off as the A's beat the Jays, 4-1, to win the series. Pinder was drafted by Oakland in 2013 in the second round of the
MLB
draft.

Oakland Athletics Update:
It was a tale of two series this week for the Athletics, who are inching closer to the .500 mark. The A's dropped two against the Marlins to start the week before returning to the friendly confines of the Oakland Coliseum to face the Yankees. The series opener proved to be a wild one, with the A's walking-off in extras after New York had tied it in the ninth inning. The Yankees took the lead in the tenth inning, courtesy of a Starlin Castro sacrifice fly, and the Athletics were down to their last out with the bases empty. After a couple of hits and an intentional walk, Khris Davis hit a blooper into shallow center field that tipped off of Castro's glove, scoring two runs and winning it for the Athletics. The A's were able to take the next three against the Yankees rather comfortably, continuing their winning ways at home and building momentum for their upcoming Astros series. The A's will try to extend their win streak on Monday night against the division leaders.

Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon
|
Nearly 2,000 triathletes participated in the 37th annual Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on Saturday, June 10. The elements came into play as high winds led to the cancellation of the swim portion of the race in the Bay; the first time in race history. Athletes competed in a modified 18-mile bike/8-mile run format. The winners were Rio Olympian Ben Kanute and Lauren Goss from Boulder, Colorado. Sports Prep Star -- Jeff Chavaret
Heritage-Brentwood
-- Track -- Junior
Jeff Chavaret completed the ultimate underdog effort on June 3 when he went from relative unknown to CIF State Champion in the 800 meters. He finished dead last in the North Coast Section Meet of Champions as a sophomore a year ago, improved nicely to finish third as a junior to earn a spot in the state trials on June 2. His NCS time of 1 minute, 55.88 seconds qualified him 21st in the state, and his winning time in the third heat of the state trials was still three seconds (1:50.64) behind state leader Alex Scales, of Bellarmine-San Jose, who had won the first trials heat on Friday in 1:53.85. But in the final, Chavaret ran a perfect tactical race by taking charge with 300 meters to go before holding off a hard-charging Scales to win in 1:51.07, edging Scales by a half-second. Who Has It Better Than Us?
|
The Warriors bringing home their third NBA title and their Lake Merritt public victory lap has brightened faces throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Talk about Rooted in Oakland, Dubs Nation is on the Ultimate Party Hearty Tour.
The
Ultimate Sports Guide
research department brought together local sports fans to discuss this Golden Age of Bay Area sports. Here are some highlights based on the question:
How long have you waited for Bay Area sports championships?
"Hi, I'm Billy, from Burlingame. I just turned seven and have five championship T-shirts my parents bought for me as I was growing up."
"Hey Billy, I'm Jenny from the Sunset and have become a fanatical Gamer Babe (thanks, Kruk!) since being born in 2000. I love my championship earrings and have seven different pairs that I can wear when the Giants, Warriors or Earthquakes are making a run for another trophy and another pair of earrings."
"Yo Dude. I'm Spencer, a millennial from San Ramon. As a 27-year-old know-it-all, I have eight Bay Area championship lids that match whatever flip flops I may be wearing to the office."
"Excuse me. I'm Susan and I moved to the Bay Area from Cleveland in 1978. I have a collection of 15 Bay Area championship wearables that regularly fill out my sports wardrobe."
"This is Natasha. I'm Spencer's wife and he doesn't know that I'm pregnant so please keep it between us for the next few days. I just want to know how many more championships our twins can count on by the end of the decade?"
The championship high of last week will begin to wear off and without a baseball miracle, the Bay Area won't be hosting a World Series in October, or any additional championships in 2017.
Just to keep the good times rolling, can all sports fans keep a smile on everyone's face this summer? Try a little tenderness in your Championship Swag.

* Tell the person with 27 items in the market Express Checkout Line, "That's okay, I'm in no

* Write a letter to a CEO about how great one of their employees treated you.
* Say, "Thank You," before they d
