Snapshot: More than 680 mortar boards were in the air at the conclusion of the June 5 Edina High School commencement ceremony. View a Flickr photo album of the event here. Also, the local cable channel, SWTV14,will air video of the event on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., and Wednesdays at 9 p.m. through the end of July. Congratulations to everyone!

EHS recognizes Native American students with commencement eagle feather presentations
Four Edina High School seniors were presented eagle feathers with their diplomas at commencement on June 5, honoring their Native American ancestry and culture. Edina is one of few districts in the state to incorporate eagle feather presentations into its graduation ceremony.
Community rates school district among highest in metro area
Edina Public Schools (EPS) continues to receive high marks from the community in areas of quality of education, fiscal management and strategic direction according to the district’s annual community survey. In his report to the School Board, Dr. Bill Morris, president of Morris Leatherman, stated that several of the ratings by the community place EPS in the top quartile and higher among metropolitan area school districts. District Updates
Board approves preliminary budget for 2017-18

As required by state statute, the Edina School Board approved a preliminary operating budget on June 12 of over $116 million for the 2017-18 school year. Also included in the board action was approval of the district’s building fund, debt service fund and internal service fund. Read more

Summer Office Locations
Many of the district's schools will be closed for the summer and staff relocated as construction projects continue. The West Campus (Edina High School and Valley View Middle School) will be closed, as will South View Middle School; and Concord, Cornelia, Countryside and Normandale elementary schools. There will be no early education programming this summer at Edina Community Center (ECC) as the Early Learning Center is also under construction. School Board
June 12 Board Meeting Highlights
The Board held a Work Session prior to its June 12 regular meeting. Highlights include:
  • Report on the community survey conducted May 2017
  • Discussion regarding the November 2017 Operating Levy, including a historical review of district referendums, comparisons to other Lake Conference districts and discussion of opportunities. Discussions will continue with the board in July. A decision on the ballot question will be made by Aug. 25.
  • A discussion on the continuing study of School Start/End Times. A formal recommendation on next steps is expected at the July 17 meeting.
