Dakota County Maps to be Printed

car_keys_map.jpg
Yes, we said printed. We still get requests for printed maps as do the cities within our footprint, so this summer DCR Chamber will be producing our biennial community map. This map contains detailed street information in our region, as well as maps of the greater Twin Cities metro area. It is distributed at our cities and Chamber offices to residents, businesses and tourists seeking information about our area.  As a Chamber member, you have an exclusive opportunity to promote your business on the map. Full color ads in various sizes are available and someone from our member publishing partner, ECM Publishers, will be contacting you to in the coming weeks to discuss your options. Please call us, 651.452.9872, if you have questions.

Committed to Business... for YOU.
DCR Chamber Goes to Washington D.C.

Dual-Training Grants Program Now Taking Applications

The application window for dual-training grants is now open for Minnesota companies interested in participating in the PIPELINE program - a public-private partnership that connects high-growth industries with workers interested in learning a specific skill set. Senator Matt Little (DFL-Lakeville) helped sponsor bipartisan legislation this year that invests $5 million into the dual-training grant program for the next biennium.

The earn-as-you-learn approach benefits employers and workers in four select high-demand job sectors: advanced manufacturing, health care services, agriculture and information technology. Sen. Little says he worked on the legislation this session and continues to advocate for the program in order to assist two growing industrial parks in his district. Read the full press release.

The application window runs from now through July 7. Click here to learn more about the program and to apply.
Expo 2023 USA-Minnesota Makes the Top Three

Last week in Paris, the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) voted to make the United States a finalist to host a World's Fair ("Expo") in 2023. The United States/Minnesota, Argentina/Buenos Aires and Poland/Lodz will continue to promote their respective Expo projects until the 162nd General Assembly of the BIE in November 2017, when Member States of the BIE will vote for the organizing country of Specialized Expo 2022/2023.

The proposed Expo in Minnesota with the theme "Healthy People, Healthy Planet" would bring more than 12 million visitors during the three-month event, and feature exhibits and experiential learning opportunities from around the world.

Expo 2023 USA-Minnesota is expected to generate over 40,000 jobs across the state in support of the event. Expo 2023 USA-Minnesota will place the Twin Cities region, and its seven-county population of 3.5 million, on a global stage, introducing Minnesota to the world. Read more.

Member Spotlight: Giving Back

Dan Sjolseth, Owner of Superior Service Center located in Eagan and Apple Valley
I grew up in Richfield and started my business out of my garage. Within a couple of years I had outgrown the space in Richfield and looked to Eagan for a new home. I moved to the Cedarvale area and opened a collision shop where I operated for 23 years. Redevelopment plans would change the location of my business again in 2007 with an addition of a mechanical shop. In 2013, I purchased another shop in Apple Valley which provides mechanical services and tires. For 30 years, I've been a member of the Chamber and of the Eagan Rotary club. Currently, I serve for the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers both at the local level and national level. Over the years I have become good friends with many people through the Chamber and have enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors. It's been a great way to understand more of what's happening in the communities we serve and to give back through volunteering and sponsorship of events such as Women's Conference and the Golf Classic, which also provide a great marketing opportunity for my business.
Business Community Input Requested

Dakota County Library is developing a strategic plan that will guide the future of the library. They are interested in hearing from the business community what services would be of use and how they can better partner for the overall economic success of Dakota County. Please take a moment to complete a very short online survey before June 23rd.
