What does it mean to be
a people of Perseverance?
  The Reverend Alice Syltie

What does it mean to be a people of Perseverance? Could there be a better question for this time? The economic, social, and political realities dividing our nation are summoning us to a higher calling.

Last Sunday, our young people shared their thoughts on how our Unitarian Universalist Principles guide us in persevering with love to live out the faith we embrace. This Sunday, we will continue to explore what it means to stay true to ourselves and our highest principles, even in the most difficult times.
This Sunday in Children and
Youth Religious Education (C YRE)

Children's Chapel. Children and youth will participate in a hands-on worship experience designed just for them based on this month's theme of "Perseverance." Children's Chapel takes place in the Justice Room during regular Religious Education (RE) time.

Nursery care (ages 0-3) will be offered as usual.

If you haven't already, please register your child/youth for this year's CYRE program. For more information, contact Erin Reid, Director of Religious Education, or Audrey Fox, CYRE Chair.

Film Discussion
Wednesday, February 21st

weathered-movie-reel.jpg
Last month our Wednesday Film Discussion was cancelled due to the weather, so this month we will get another chance to view it.

We will watch the TED Talk by Malik Copra, "Living with Intention." To help us ponder what it means to live a life of purpose, Copra poses these questions, "Who am I?," "What do I want?," and "How can I serve?"

Adult Religious Education will host the discussion at 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. (right after the Wonderful Wednesday Supper). Steve Rittenburg and Lauren Childers will facilitate. So join us for a stimulating film and discussion right after our wonderful meal prepared by the Hospitality Committee.

All are welcome and childcare will be provided.
"New UU" Class Continues February 18th and 25th

What does it mean to be a Unitarian Universalist (UU)? Guided by the Tapestry of Faith Curriculum, we will offer a three-part series that explores important themes in UU congregational life: our worship and theology, history, covenant and polity, faith development, social justice, and membership. This program is particularly focused on introducing newcomers to Unitarian Universalism, but those of us who have been here for a while will also be able to share and connect with others as we explore our own beliefs and how they intersect with the UU tradition. Everyone is welcome!

Join us on February 18 th and 25 th for this chance to learn and share. Please come even if you cannot attend each session. Meet for coffee or tea at 9:00 a.m. in the Adult RE classroom; discussion starts at 9:15. Pam Korb and Nick Wilbourn will facilitate the discussion.

Contact Nancy Finley (Adult.RE@uuch.org) for further information. If you need childcare during this time, please contact Nancy at least a week before the class.
Save The Date
As you all know, Reverend Alice has announced her plans to retire at the end of this church year. Although she will be with us until the end of July, we plan to start celebrating her a little early, to begin the process of saying goodbye to someone who has made such an impact on our church and to allow for participation from members before we all embark on our summer vacations.

Please mark your calendars for a celebration of Reverend Alice's legacy of service and leadership on April 22nd.

We will have an opportunity during that worship service to look back at the many gifts Reverend Alice has given our church. You will not want to miss it!
COME SING A SONG WITH US

The UUCH choir practices on Wednesdays at 7:15 p.m. in the Choir Room. Whether you know how to sing or would like to learn, we would love for you to join us!

Care List

This Sunday, February 11, 2018, at our Circle of Candles:

Rev. Alice; a candle for the Shrider family who shared their gratitude and appreciation with Reverend Alice and the church for the Celebration of Life for Justine Shrider on February 4th.

Rev. Alice; a candle for Laurie Keller who was in church Sunday, and let us know she had recently suffered a stroke. Laurie still has her old phone number and would be happy to hear from friends.

Rev. Alice; a candle for Jerome Belcher

Amanda Schuber; a candle of sorrow: I lost two very important people in my life last week. Our neighbor, Ms. Pat Sylvester, died suddenly. She has been like a grandmother to our family. Also, my college adviser and mentor, Dr. Jerry Roseberg, passed after a long illness. Both of them shaped my life in very different ways and taught me what it means to live, love, and accept this world.

Steve Herold; a candle of joy: I'm delighted to announce the birth of my second grand-baby. Bryan Hamilton Davis was born early Tuesday, February 5th, morning. He weighed 8 pounds. Mother and baby (and Father) are doing well. Bonnie and I are overjoyed!
