FEATURED EVENT: Crystal Apple Nomination Reveals Have Begun
Thirty-nine staff members were nominated for recognition through the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce's annual Crystal Apple Excellence in Education Awards and those nomination reveals have begun! Pictured above are Tobias office manager Theresa Kinnan and teacher Terry Sayre who were surprised and celebrated by students at a spirit assembly last Friday. A slideshow of pictures and full list of nominees will be posted to our website in early March. The Crystal Apple Awards dinner will take place on Thursday, Apr. 19, at NW Events & Environments, 2900 NE Century Blvd., #100, Hillsboro. Hillsboro Schools Summit Registration Now
Please join us for our 4th annual Hillsboro Schools Summit on Tuesday, March 13, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., in the administration center board room, 3083 NE 49th Place, where the featured event will be a panel of students and staff sharing their personal experiences with several of the programs and investments that make us great and Proud to be HSD: AVID, dual language, STEM, CTE, alternative learning, and more! Student entertainment and light breakfast provided. Seating is limited; RSVP by Wednesday, March 7.

Multiple Perspectives Equity-Focused Dialogue Session
HSD welcomes your participation in this week's equity-focused dialogue session, which poses the question: "What does it mean to create an inclusive and welcoming educational community?" The purpose of these sessions is to bring community members together to engage in a facilitated discussion about equity-focused issues that impact our students and the community in which we live. The session will take place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, in the Administration Center Board Room, 3083 NE 49th Place. RSVP to Patricia Ramirez by Feb. 20 if you would like to participate.

Immunization Exclusion Day
Please remember that students must be current on all required immunizations or have a current exemption on file by Wednesday, Feb. 21, which is the state's immunization exclusion day.

This month's Wonderful Third Wednesdays professional development sessions are taking place on Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at R.A. Brown Middle School, 1505 SW Cornelius Pass Rd. Glencoe's Team Shockwave Hosts
RoboExpo March 1
Glencoe High School is pleased to announce its annual RoboExpo, taking place on Thursday, Mar. 1, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the Glencoe cafeteria, 2700 NW Glencoe Road. The RoboExpo is a free event featuring robotics teams from across the District, as well as some community partner booths. The main event will be the public unveiling of Team Shockwave's newest competition robot, which is designed to pick up golden cubes, lift them high onto scoring platforms, and insert them into scoring portals on the ground (think real-life video game). Optional spaghetti dinner available for $10. Learn more here.

Oregon Health Plan Expands Youth Access to Free Healthcare
As of Jan. 1, 2018, the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) is available to more children and teens younger than 19. OHP is free health coverage for Oregonians who meet income and other criteria. It covers services like check-ups, tooth fillings, prescriptions, labs, x-rays, and hospital care. Apply to see if you qualify. 2018 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest
The 2018 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest offers high school students in the Western U.S. and Pacific Islands a chance to win prizes while learning how the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution has helped shape their education. The theme is "The 14th Amendment 150 Years After Ratification: What Does Equal Protection Mean To Students?" A total of $7,000 in cash prizes will be awarded; first place winners will also be invited to the 2018 Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference in Anaheim, CA. Entry deadline is April 1; contest rules and other information are available here.
