Artist Biography
Born in Robeson County, NC, Marilyn Kearney has expressed her creativity in various forms all her life. Her artistic journey has taken her all over the country and through various artistic media, culminating in her greatest artistic passion, painting. She began painting 35 years ago, taking art classes at her local library before moving on to private lessons in faux painting in Greensboro, NC. She quickly moved from student to teacher, hosting her own art classes at a local community college and the same library where she began painting. Word of her talent spread, and she was commissioned to create faux finishes on the walls at the International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, NC. Through her work there, she was commissioned to design and paint artwork on antique nursery furniture for Wicker Garden in New York. Those artistic renderings parlayed into her showcasing her won work at the International Home Furnishings Market, work that was then featured in home decor magazines such as Country Living and House Beautiful. Mrs. Kearney launched her own home accessories company, Special Touch Designs, featuring such pieces as hand painted chin a and table linens, with her work gaining the notice of buyers form luxury department stores Bergdorf Goodman and Nieman Marcus where her hand-painted linens were sold for many years. Additionally, she has designed and painted table linens for the James Beard Foundation, accessories and stemware for Mario Andretti, chargers and table linens for Jeff Gordon, and a wooden car as a donor gift for the donors to Victory Junction in Randleman, NC. IN recent years as her artistry has evolved toward fine art, Mrs. Kearney has designed murals and applied faux finishes in homes along the East Coast. She currently resides in North Myrtle Beach, SC with her husband and Cairn Terrier, where she has most recently painted canvases featuring sea life that have been shown in specialty shops and restaurants.
