Superintendent Avossa Discusses School Violence on WPTV's To The Point

Superintendent Avossa joined
Sheriff William Snyder of the  Martin County Sheriff's Office  on  WPTV 's To The Point this weekend.

"The reality is, this is a societal issue, and there are policies and procedures that can be put in place at the federal and state level that can help us keep our kids safe," Superintendent Avossa shared. "The fact that I'm having to train six-year-olds to duck and cover, [and] teach them when to run, when to hide and when to fight, makes me sick to my stomach." Watch the video...

Promoting Peace: Boca Raton HS Students Practice Being the Change They Wish to See in the World
Boca Raton Community High School students are putting thoughts into action in an effort to be the change they wish to see in the world.

What started as a group of 35 students learning yoga several years ago has blossomed to nearly 1,000 students today. The program is especially important to senior Michael Gorlano, a student with autism. He regularly leads yoga sessions for students, including students from Marjory St oneman Douglas High School.

"One of the first times he taught a class I was like, crying at the end of it, just because his words just melted me, and he was so amazing at it. I'm so proud of him," teacher Catherine Payne shared.

Students hope to expand the program in the future, spreading their message of peace and wellness throughout Palm Beach County Schools.
Quote of the Day

"We are going to be the kids you read about in textbooks. Not because we're going to be another statistic about mass shooting in America, but because, just as David said, we are going to be the last mass shooting.

Just like Tinker v. Des Moines, we are going to change the law. That's going to be Marjory Stoneman Douglas in that textbook and it's going to be due to the tireless effort of the school board, the faculty members, the family members and most of all the students." -  Senior Emma Gonzalez of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
