Dear St. Francis of Assisi Parents and Guardians,

I hope you enjoyed the fantastic performance by St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School students! The energy on stage and back stage was electric! The audience was entertained, charmed, and delighted by SFA's presentation of the musical Aladdin Jr. Over one hundred students from grades Kindergarten to eighth grade, took the stage at Servite Theatre and delivered four exciting performances that brought laughter, applause, and cheers from the audience.  We are so proud of our cast who worked very hard to put on a great show. Their dedication and commitment inspires us as parents and educators.
The performance is a reminder of the joy of parenting and teaching. Watching our young students practice for weeks and perform on stage is a snapshot of what our kids can do when given the opportunity, guidance, and support to step outside of their comfort zone and explore their talents.  We watched them struggle, work through challenges and fears, and then witnessed the miracle of growth. The performance also reminds us about the challenges of parenting and teaching. The kids get tired and cranky, they lose focus and get easily distracted, and then they light up and inspire us.

The school production of Aladdin Jr. also built community. A village was needed to provide the resources and energy necessary to put on a musical that involves elaborate sets, costumes, practice schedules, rehearsals, coaching, ticket sales, and dozens of behind the scenes activities that all have to occur for things to come together.  I am grateful to work with the Stagelight Production crew and for the parent volunteers who helped plan and support the practices, rehearsals, and performances.  In particular, I wish to thank the parents who helped construct the set on Super Bowl Sunday and strike the set late in the night after Saturday night's performance.
Last, and most important, I want to thank Mrs. Lambert.  It was her vision and hard work that brought our first musical production, Seussical Jr., to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School last year, followed by this year's production of Aladdin Jr.  Her passion, dedication, and enthusiasm for the performing arts inspire our students to stretch their minds and explore their creative talents, and have tons of fun!

Our student's participation in the musical is a great example of learning outside the classroom.  It was a joy to watch our students learn and have fun, all at the same time!

SCHOOL NEWS
2018/2019 Intent to Return Kindergarten - 7th Grade
Believe it or not, it is time to start preparing for next year!  We need enrollment information from current families for the 2018/2019 school year!  We had a great response to Open House generating dozens of inquiries from prospective families.  We are very pleased with the strong interest from families considering St. Francis as their home away from home.

Forecasting enrollment numbers is critical to both developing an effective budget as well as ensuring we do not overpopulate our classrooms for next year. To be as accurate as possible we need your input. Of course our goal is to retain all current students, but we understand that life circumstances may necessitate change.  All we ask is that you let us know if you will not be returning next year.  On Thursday, February 15, the Intent to Return form will be sent via email to each family.   Please submit your family's response by Thursday, February 22.

2018/2019 Tuition and Fees will be announced on April 12th at the General Parent Meeting.  Registration information will be emailed to all families following the General Parent Meeting.  Online registration will be available from April 13 until April 23. Registration and class fees will be due either April 23rd if paid by cash or check or May 10th if paid through FACTS.

Musical Production, Aladdin Jr.
Last weekend, St. Francis of Assisi offered four shows of Aladdin Jr. with actors from Kindergarten through Eighth grade. This was our 2nd theatrical production held at Servite High School (Anaheim Center for the Performing Arts).  Over 1,300 tickets tickets were sold and audiences seemed to enjoy every performance.  Many thanks go out to Stagelight Family Productions for their amazing staff, sets, costumes and years of expertise. We are thankful to the dedication of our parents who volunteered countless hours backstage and to the Servite crew who went above and beyond to assist our production. We are so proud of all of our actors who participated in the show and look forward to another great production in 2019.

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS - WHERE DID THEY COME FROM AND HOW CAN WE KEEP THEM?
A WOLF News Press Corps Report by Student Journalist, Emily E.

People across the globe make preparations for the start of a new year by participating in a variety of traditions. Every year, millions crowd Times Square in New York City on New Year's Eve to watch the famous ball drop. About a billion more watch the ball drop from the television in their homes. This has been a New Year's tradition for more than 100 years. However, one of the oldest, most popular, and customary new year's traditions is making new year's resolutions.
