SEEKING 2018 REFLECTIONS CHAIRS FOR ROCKWELL

If volunteering is part of your 2018 resolution, consider the Reflection Art program!  Rockwell's reflection art program is looking for a chair for 2018-2019 as current chairs have kids in fifth grade.

Reflections Art is a PTA nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts, based on a different theme every year.

The involvement is low to medium, sporadic and early in the school year only. I can walk you through in more details but here it is briefly:
  • Promote program in October (Bugle newsletter, morning announcements)
  • Collect art and check if meeting requirements ( about end October)
  • Judge entries for each category (about a week period in early November)
  • Exhibit in Rockwell library. (one night)
  • Exhibit in LWSD. (one night)

Although we are only four months into the school year, the time to find the 2018-19  Board of Directors for Rockwell PTA is officially now!
  • Three volunteers are asked to work together to seek the best Board candidates.
  • You can nominate yourself to be on the Nominations Committee or you can be nominated into the leadership role by someone else.

  • Task: Attend LWPTSA training, build a pool of qualified candidates, interview, maintain confidentiality and present final Board of Directors slate on April 26th.
  • If you have been affected by the boundary change, this would be good experience to bring to North Redmond. (More information on that in a future article).
  • If you are interested in sitting on the Board next year, the "Nom Comm" will send out a request for your information. Stay tuned!
  • MSFT/Boeing employees submit your volunteer hours and donate the $25/hour to PTA.

WA STATE PTA ESSAY CONTEST
Entries Due March 1st

"Men Making a Difference" is a statewide PTA essay contest.  It explores the important  contributions men make in the lives and education of children - from our children's  perspective. All men involved in a child's life - fathers, uncles, grandpas, brothers, step- fathers, mentors, neighbors, pastors, coaches, and friends - impact the children they care  about.

Students may consider many questions when writing their essays including:
  • Why is this male role model important in your life?
  • What life lessons, ethics, or skills has he taught you?
  • Why do you look up to him and appreciate having him in your life?
  • How would your life be different without him?
  • How would other kids benefit from having a similar role model in their lives?
Full details and application are found here! Submit your entry & application by March 1st.
