The Bear Way
I know our thoughts and prayers are with all the students and families in the Broward Schools in Florida.  I believe a tragedy like this reminds us that we can never be too vigilant and that we must always work towards treating each other the right way.  It also makes people pause and reflect.  To that end, please know that although this horrible event highlights school safety, it is something that we do not stop thinking about or planning for at NRMS or in our district.  We conduct various safety drills throughout the year and have an ongoing Safety and Security Committee that meets regularly.

Moving forward, it is imperative that our students continue to live The Bear Way, which contains three simple rules:  "Do what's right."  "Do the best you can." "Treat others as you would like to be treated."  If at any time your son or daughter does not feel as if he or she was treated right or if something does not seem right, please do not hesitate to call us.

We have an opportunity each day to build positive relationships with our students, which will help them to  feel safe and comfortable.   By doing this, we will help make certain that all students feel a sense of belonging to our school so that they can learn and enjoy their time here.  I appreciate everything that our students, teachers, staff, parents, and community do to make NRMS a great middle school for our kids.

Scheduling Update
Our school counselors have now met with each grade level and discussed scheduling for next year.  They are currently meeting with each individual student to discuss next year's schedule, in addition to career exploration and social/emotional development.  Please note that letters regarding world language (current 7th grade students) and the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test (current 6th and 7th grade students) should have been received by the students/families who qualified for the courses.  If you have a question about scheduling for next year, please contact your child's school counselor.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher, counselor, grade level principal, or me with any questions throughout the year.

Thanks,
Jeff

Important Notes:

Student Council Health Awareness Week
The NRMS Student Council is sponsoring a Health Awareness Week from Wednesday, 2/21 - Friday, 2/23.  Students are asked to wear green on Wednesday for Leukemia/Lymphoma, purple and teal on Thursday for mental illness, and red on Friday for heart conditions.  Thank you to our student council members for helping to organize this campaign and for providing information to our student body regarding each topic.

National School Breakfast Week
North Royalton City Schools is celebrating National School Breakfast Week during the week of March 5th.   The theme of the week will connect school breakfast with familiar and fun hearts, emojis, and smiles.   Each school will be raffling a bike to a lucky winner.  Each student's name will be entered every time he or she buys a breakfast meal.

Hats Off to Cancer
The NRMS Student Council is again sponsoring their annual Hats Off to Cancer day.  Students can donate $1.00 to wear a hat throughout the day.  The money collected will then be donated to cancer research.
