Dear Jones Families,

Over the past several days, our nation has struggled to comprehend what took place at a Florida high school. Those of us charged with the well being of children are especially concerned with what we can do to prevent such a tragedy from happening at our school. At Jones, we continually seek ways to enhance our school's security, as I outlined in my letter to parents earlier this week. For example, in the coming weeks, in conjunction with the Chicago Police Department and CPS security, we will conduct our second scheduled lockdown drill of the school year.

We all pray that our children will never have to stare into the face of evil. While we take many precautions to help ensure the safety of those we love, the greatest bulwark we have against evil is the love and dedication we show each other. As a community, we are dedicated to the one great idea that all of us have value. While many school communities pay lip service to this idea, at Jones we live it.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at [email protected]
or 773-534-8606.

Sincerely,

P. Joseph Powers, Ph.D.

Donations Needed for Musical

The Jones Theater Department
is looking for clothing donations for our
all-school production, Heathers: The Musical.

The show takes place in the late 1980s in a suburban high school, and we want to create archetypes for the ensemble (jocks, nerds, goth clique, punk kids,
preppy Republican kids, etc.)
We are seeking the following items:
  • Late '80s graphic T-shirts and sweatshirts with pop icons and bands such as George Michael, INXS, Guns & Roses, Whitney Houston, Cheap Trick, Michael Jackson
  • '80s jeans: Levi's or girls high-waist ("MOM JEANS")
  • Scrunchies!!!
  • Sweaters (period appropriate), "Cosby" sweaters (sculptured) were popular for men.
  • Skirts (above knee preferably)
  • Knee-high socks
  • White sneakers/tennis shoes or period high-top footwear (Chucks also okay)
  • Women's shoulder-padded jackets or sweaters
  • Jean jackets

CONTRIBUTE TO THE ANNUAL FUND AND HELP US CELEBRATE 80 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE!

JCP has come a long way in 80 years!
Its name, student body and building have changed drastically in that time.  In 1938, our school was known as
Jones Commercial High School and was an excellent all-female trade school for clerical and secretarial training.

Today our student body is a robust and diverse with 1900 students. The class of 2017 earned $46 million in scholarship funding and 90% enrolled in a four-year college
to some of the best institutions in the nation.

In US News and World Report's
"America's Best High Schools,"
JCP ranked #3 in Illinois  and #110 nationally o ut of 22,000 .

In order to keep JCP on this phenomenal trajectory,
we need 100% participation for the annual fund.
Every gift of any amount  is critical to continue providing
the exceptional education that has won  JCP national acclaim.
