We are pleased to announce that this coming Thursday, we have invited Walden C. Rhines, President and CEO of Mentor Graphics to speak to parents and students about what we can expect to see in the coming years in technology. You can read more about Mr. Rhines and his extensive background in the field here

This is a special opportunity for our TRCS community, as well as the entire West Linn-Wilsonville School District, to learn and examine what kind of world our children will be adults in! We will begin promptly at 6:30 on February 22nd, so please plan to join us and invite your friends and neighbors! Light refreshments will be served.
The Wave
February 16, 2018

My heart and thoughts go out to the courageous staff/families and students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida. The fact that this violent act has been repeated time and time again in our schools is stunning. I know that you are all concerned for this loss and I assume that you would be interested in what I have in place for the safety of your kids. I have been in teaching/administration long enough (from 1992  - present) to have had many experiences that have "schooled me." Believe it or not, I was in the center of a tornado with 2nd graders..... Columbine.......9-11 @ WLHS etc, etc, etc. No one in public education can take anything for granted.  We must question everything, on the oft chance that we don't want to miss an possible hint of violence.

Please read this letter about the school safety at TRCS and know that with all of these experiences, I designed this building for safety - first and foremost.  I am shocked, stunned and absolutely devastated at the loss of life - young teenagers in the beginnings of their lives.  Our world is changing...the response to all of this violence is critical to kids all across our nation.

PE Week Ahead
This coming week we are travelling to the Courts in Beaverton for PE. The students will be rotating through different activities including basketball, volleyball, calisthenics, and, eveyone's favorite, pickleball! Each day next week, students must dress appropriately for PE, especially their footwear - sneakers are required all week! Students are excused from activity with a doctors note only.

Cell Phones
Our 17/18 transition to allowing cell phones, once students attend an informational meeting, along with passing a cell phone test has proven to be excellent!  We partner with our parents to help navigate this together.  The best part is that the students do the learning.. and then know the expectations. They like having their phones, we like knowing that we taught them some things important to cell phone use, and have yet to have any class/school problems. If your child would like to attend a meeting, we will have one more Meeting on March14th @ 3:15- 4:00 PM @ TRCS. This meeting is a requirement for using any phone at TRCS.
TRANSITIONS MEETINGS
TUESDAY FEB. 20th:
6:00 - 7:00 PM
We are hosting a healthy transitions meeting to all students and parents who would like to attend. Our 8th grade will host representatives from WLHS and WHS, our 6/7th will discuss spring and what that brings and finally our 4/5th grade group will meet and discuss middle school movement forward into more complex expectations. We want everyone to be aware that we are all transitioning day to day. We do this in a healthy manner or we hurt the most important people - teachers and parents.  We hope to give lots of tips and tricks to having healthy family discussions about life and movement forward.
Kids First Statements
We are mailing out Kids First statements for all pledges received this school year through February 15, 2018. We do this for two reasons - we work very hard to keep accurate records and want to ensure our records match yours, and we want to give parents a big picture look at their pledges as we head into the latter part of the school year. We want to extend our gratitude to the many families that have completed their pledges for the year. Kids First is a vital part of keeping this school running and your support is very much appreciated. If you find a discrepancy or need to discuss your pledge, please email the TRCS Finance Committee
