GEORGETOWN, KY - FEBRUARY 23, 2018 -  Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement center in Georgetown, KY, is pleased to announce that the new book,
The Art of Old Friends by celebrated artist Dagmar Galleithner-Steiner, is now available for pre-publication order.

Crafted over more than seven years, The Art of Old Friends is an ode to the farm's famous and not-so-famous retired equine athletes. It showcases 47 stunning pastel paintings and pencil works of horses both past and present, including such champions as Kentucky Derby winners Silv er Charm and Charismatic, three-time Santa Anita Handicap winner Game On Dude--who graces the cover--Horse of the Year Black Tie Affair, and Eclipse Award-winners Sunshine Forever and Hidden Lak e.

With text by Old Friends founder Michael Blowen and  Daily Racing Form executive columnist and five-time Eclipse Award-winner Jay Hovdey, and a Foreword by Bob and Jill Baffert, the 100-plus-page hardbound book also includes sketches and behind-the-scenes images of the farm, its people, and other pets-in-residence.

To support the publication of this unique collection, interested patrons are being offered nine pledge le vels, each of which will feature a reward or series  of rewards. Pledge rewards begin with an autographed copy of T he Art of Old Friends for $39.99 (plus shipping and handling)  an d advance to include commemorative bookmarks,  note cards, posters, and original drawings by Galleithner-Steiner. 

The highest pledge level is highlighted by an 8x10 artist-original horse portrait that is signed and matted. (A detailed list of pledge levels is below.)

Dual-classic winner Silver Charm is among the Old Friends retirees featured in The Art of Old Friends.

The anticipated publication date is August  2018, and the artist is graciously donating 100 percent of the sale proceeds to benefit the horses of Old Friends.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born and raised in Germany, Galleithner-Steiner now lives in the U.S. with her husband, former jockey Joe J. Steiner, and their son, Jonah . Her work can be seen in private collections around the world. She has long been an advocate of equine aftercare, and has donated her work to numerous organizations, including Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue, Save a Forgotten Equine (SAFE), CANTER, Thoroughbred Charities of America, and Old Friends

In recent years Galleithner-Steiner has been commissioned by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club to create the official portrait of Pacific Classic winners Shared Belief, Beholder, California Chrome, and, most recently, Collected.

Of The Art of Old Friends  she says: "I wanted to create something for people that have not been able to visit the farm. I wanted them to feel like they have been there. And the honor of being allowed to immortalize these amazing athletes is one of the greatest feelings one could ever experience."
