Each year when May rolls around, those of us in the quilt business head to Spring Market, this year in St. Louis, Missouri. As both a designer and a shop owner, I get to share new fabric lines and patterns plus explore all of the booths for fun, new products for the Studio. But my favorite thing about Market is all the fellow quilt lovers I get to meet, old friends and new.
I so enjoyed designing and piecing my Arabic Tiles quilt that I have decided to teach a class on this in August here at the Studio. Check out our "

All About Table Runners
|
Last month I introduced you to my new
mini-stripe fabrics, shown again here, and the quilt for which it was designed,
Arabic Tiles. This month, I have two new but smaller projects to share using these same fabrics.

New Casablanca Borders
|
My Casablanca collection was inspired by the rich, exotic landscape and colors of Morocco. I have so enjoyed using border prints in this collection that I decided to add three new colorways for upcoming projects.

Row by Row Experience
|
 We will once again be participating in the Row by Row Experience shop hop which runs June 21 - September 5. It's a shop hop like no other and it's becoming more popular each year with shops participating throughout the US, Canada and Europe!
Simply visit any participating quilt shop during the summer and ask for their free pattern. This year's theme is "On the Go!"
Only at the Studio will you find our Homeward Bound row kit. It can be used for both horizontal or vertical rows so you can get just the right setting for your quilt or you can make it into a table runner or banner.
New this summer is
Row by Row Junior designed for young quilters, ages 6 to 14. As they travel along with an adult, they can collect free row patterns designed just for them. The children need to be present in the shop to get the free pattern handout.
If you can't visit the Studio, we still have items available for you. Our "Piece on the Go!" license plates and pins will be available
online starting later this month.

Moroccan Mystery Survey Results

In April's newsletter, we asked you to take a survey regarding our mystery quilt. We thought you might be curious as to what others said so here are the results.
Many of you are using our kits to make the quilt with the rest using fabric from stashes.

While about half of you are sewing solely by machine, I am thrilled to see so many of you piecing all or part by hand!

Tip for the Moroccan Mystery Quilt
|
We've passed this tip along before but it is worth repeating since this month the
Moroccan Mystery quilt has you working on appliqué and this is now my "go-to" method.
With typical appliqué, your seam allowance is smaller than ¼". However, Rosa Rojas, developer of the
Apliquick tools, recommends a larger seam allowance of a full ¼". With the Apliquick method, glue is added to the seam allowance and stabilizer. For greater success with appliqué, the larger seam allowance makes it easier to manipulate your fabric with the tools.

Moroccan Mystery - Clue 5
|
This month it is all about appliqué! While there are many methods available, in this months' video, I will be teaching you the Apliquick method. Included in the pattern download this month, are tips for the appliqué plus, for those of you who are not appliqué fans, we suggest a clever but just as striking option, using embroidery or quilting as an alternative to appliqué.
This is a free program available just to our newsletter subscribers. Each newsletter will have a link to a new clue plus you will have access to all past clues.
If you watch the video for this month's clue, you will see me using the Omnigrid FoldAway for cutting and pressing along with YLI silk thread for the appliqué. Both items are on sale this week as part of our Weekly Web Special.
