Derry Township Provides Conflict Resolution

Derry Township partners with the Neighborhood Dispute Settlement Mediation Center (NDS) to offer residents mediation services. NDS has been providing services for family, landlord-tenant, neighborhood, and custody disputes for 40 years.

NDS also provides Youth Peace Sessions for students in grades K-12 in partnership with local organizations in Dauphin and Cumberland counties. Last year, 197 youth participated in the program, learning basic conflict resolution skills.

Help to Control the Outdoor Cat Population

Derry Township Community Cats (DTCC) 2018 season begins in March. If you have outdoor cats that need to be trapped and spayed or neutered, please call and leave your contact information on the DTCC "catline" at 717-592-8087. A volunteer will return your call and work with you to schedule your cat(s) for an upcoming clinic.

This service is completely free for Derry Township residents. Cat owners can also schedule spay/neuter services for a low cost by leaving a message. Visit www.derrytownshipcats.org for more information on the program.

Voters in Precinct 2, Please Note

Change in Polling Location

The Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue, is the new polling location for Precinct 2, formerly located at All Saints Episcopal Church. The library will now be the polling location for Precinct 2 and Precinct 5.

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, May 15. Eligible citizens my register to vote in Pennsylvania on-line. 

Take Control of the Spaceship at the

Artemis Starship Simulation

Come to play on the library's computers on Sunday, February 18, at 2:00 p.m. when the "simulator" turns the library into the bridge of a spaceship. Assume the role of Captain, Helm, Science, Communication, Engineering, and Weapon Control to defend the sector from evil aliens. 

The program is for children ages 8+, but teens and adults will enjoy it, too.

Author Maria Snyder Discusses Poison Study , the One Book, One Community Selection

Poison Study by Maria Snyder topped the public vote as the 2018 One Book, One Community selection. Meet the author on Monday, February 19, at 6:00 p.m. at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue. She will talk about how she sparked on the idea for the One Book One Community novel, and how she developed it into a multi-book series.

The event will include a “poison” tasting. Maria will teach participants tasting techniques that she learned while doing research for the book. Following the program, Maria will be happy to answer questions and will be available to sign books, which will be on sale before and after the program.

Friends Winter Film Festival: Tribute to Roger Moore

Saturday, February 17 at 2:00 p.m.

The Friends of the Hershey Public Library will show Cannonball Run , 1981 (Rated PG), the third movie in the Winter Film Festival: Tribute to Roger Moore. The film follows the antics of eccentric competitors in a wild and illegal cross-country road race, who will do anything to win, including low-down, dirty tricks.

It will be great fun for the entire family! No registration is required. Snacks will be provided.

In The Middle Book Club Goes for the Gold

In The Middle Book Club will be held on Wednesday, February 21 at 3:00 p.m. at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue.

Read and discuss books written by  Olympian athletes.

We Matter Coalition Provides

Suicide Prevention Training

A training session will be offered through the We Matter Coalition on Monday, March 5, 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue.

WellSpan Philhaven provides the course at no charge to fulfill their commitment to improve mental health and resilience in the community. Certified trainers will teach participants how to be "gatekeepers." Skill will be taught to recognize a crisis and the warning signs, and how to ask questions, persuade, and refer someone to help. "Gatekeepers" include parents, friends, neighbors, police officers, caseworkers, coaches, athletic trainers, and more.

Women's Civic Club to Learn About Heroin Epidemic

The Women's Civic Club of Hershey will meet on Tuesday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hershey Plaza Apartments, 215 W. Chocolate Avenue.

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Kelly Smith will talk about the heroin epidemic in Dauphin County.

All women 18 years old and older are welcome to participate.

Women's Civic Club of Hershey Volunteers for Caitlin's Smiles

Members of the Women's Civic Club of Hershey volunteered on February 3, 2018 for Catlin's Smiles at the New Hope Church in Harrisburg, which is one of the many volunteer activities for the members. Catlin's Smiles shares smiles and laughter with children facing chronic or life- threatening illnesses.

The Women's Civic Club of Hershey develops educational, civic and social interests, as well as advances the welfare of the community. The club is open to women 18 years old and older and meets the first Tuesday of the month from September through May at the Hershey Plaza Apartments.
