Brant Barrett is a documentary and fine art photographer. His photographic projects include such diverse topics as wildlife management at Santee Coastal Reserve, tobacco farming in Horry County and, most recently the battle sites of Francis Marion's Brigade. As a youth, Barrett spent untold hours fishing, swimming and crabbing in St. Helena's Sound near Beaufort, SC. Those early years instilled in him a life-long love of nature and the South Carolina Lowcountry. As he grew older, Barrett discovered the importance of history and how it gives context to and a deeper understanding of our current circumstances. All of Barrett's projects aim to connect the viewer to a place and time. Through his visual interpretation of the natural world and mankind's relationship to it, Barrett provides insight into today's complex society. His award-winning photography has been shown at the Colleton County Museum and the Farmers Market in Walterboro, SC, the Contemporary South exhibition in Raleigh, NC, and the South Carolina Biennial in Columbia and at ArtFields in Lake City, SC. Most recently Barrett was in a two-person exhibition at Southern Exposures in Pike County, GA. Barrett was also the exhibiting artist from the Franklin G. Burroughs - Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum's 2017 Summer exhibition, Feast Local | Photography by Brant Barrett.
