We meet in federal court Monday morning to resume mediation in Waesche vs USA & NLMS.
We have been here before; Across all of 2015, we met with Judge Margolis and, in fact, reached an agreement in December 2015. Months later, the Waesches decided not to sign. Should we not reach a second agreement, and sign it, the case goes to federal court on October 28 of this year.

Below, A field trip to Fort Trumbull
State Park last week
. In June, NLMS provided six days of field trips to bring New London public school's 300 third graders to visit this important historic property. This was the final in a series of visits the Maritime Society provided to the students as part of a year-long local history program developed and run by NLMS educator Jody Barthel and financed by grants from Anthony and Elizabeth Enders, the McGinley Family Fund, and the Community Foundation. Guess what: we've already received grants to repeat this program for the 4th time next year!
Our historic sites can teach us a lot. But if people don't have access to these properties -- many of these places built and maintained by their tax dollars -- the public won't care to continue to invest to preserve them for future generations.
At Fort
Trumbull, now a Connecticut state park
, students toured both in the museum and outside throughout the fort. They learned about Benedict Arnold's burning of New London, that this was the first home of the USCG Academy, and of the important work of the Navy Underwater Sound Laboratory in WWII and the development of the sonobuoy, which helped defeat the German 'wolf packs'.
