When the cows move out, we move in.

Nobleboro, ME-Around 1850, local craftsmen from the midcoast of Maine collaborated to erect a barn for a local family farm, gathering timbers from the nearby woods and hewing them by hand in the old tradition to construct a standard 4 bent barn structure. Fast forward to 2015, and the Jarmak Corporation is helping to preserve the legacy of the barn now over 160 years old by reusing many of the original timbers, decking and barn siding while incorporating an impressive haul of locally sourced reclaimed lumber to match the style of the original structure.

We are pleased to announce that the doors to our new show space and gallery will be open for business in Nobleboro, Maine starting in the spring of 2016! This wonderful piece of American heritage tastefully preserved by the Jarmak Corporation will give a new breed of local craftspeople, designers, and builders a great way to view samples of our premium quality reclaimed wood products in use. But don't worry, if you can't get away to the midcoast for an in-person showing, just browse the photos in the gallery below to see how good this wood can look!

They just don't make them like this anymore!
The photo on the left shows the original marks used by master builders over 160 years ago to mark the appropriate bents on the timber frame. We were able to save many of the historic timbers for structural use in place, only replacing what was necessary, and doing so with lumber from the same era. In the center photograph, our flooring boards reclaimed from South Boston can be seen recently sanded and defected ready to be installed. It's also interesting to note the transformation of the front facade of the barn, from the original board and batten construction seen here to the newly sided clapboards and redwood trim in the larger image above. Some of the newly installed antique heart pine joists for the second floor loft can be seen in the photo on the right, as well as much of the original timber frame highlighted with a fresh backing of locally milled hemlock shiplap siding.

Reclaimed Redwood Barn Door & Exterior Trim

Salvaged from a defunct water tank at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, we could think of no better use for the clear vertical grain 3x8's than to mill it up for our exteriortrim details. We made 5/4" thick window, and door trim, as well as a beautiful 10' wide sliding barn door. When matched with locally sourced eastern white cedar clapboards we think it makes quite the team!

Reclaimed Heart Pine Timbers

Originally slated for use in an industrial warehouse, the incredibly dense grain old growth timbers were resawn to 6x8 joists to support the second floor loft space in the barn. Once in place, the original floor boards of the barn were cleaned and installed as flooring for the loft. Original divided-light windows were re-installed, and we used locally sourced and milled hemlock shiplap to really emphasize the antiquity of the barns original structure.

Reclaimed Hemlock and Fir Decking

Saved from a historic building in along the waterfront in South Boston, these 2x7 original tongue and groove decking boards were hand-culled, lightly sanded and installed on the main floor for a bomb-proof new deck from which to enjoy the rest of the barn. The original 2" thick wide plank decking that was salvagable made its way to the new 2nd floor loft above.

Sustainable And Recycled Building Materials
We have saved tens of millions of board feet of vintage, and often historic lumber
to share with our customers, ensuring that the legacy of this beautiful old wood will continue for generations to come. We are passionate about our work and our products, because we're not just selling reclaimed wood- we're sharing a piece of history.  Reclaimed wood is sustainable and environmentally friendly, as it is recycling old wood, and giving it new life. We can help you reduce your carbon footprint without sacrificing beauty and quality.
The majority of the  reclaimed wood  we save is in the form of large and often historic timbers, joists, decking and flooring. We sell large quantities of premium quality  reclaimed old-growth southern yellow pine  timbers and decking throughout the US and internationally on a wholesale basis. We also supply local homeowners, architects, timber framers, builders, flooring manufacturers, and furniture makers who are all choosing  sustainable, salvaged  and  recycled building materials  like reclaimed wood from the Jarmak Corporation.

Fancy downtown showroom?  Nope.
Slick-talking, suit and tie salesmen?  Uh-uh.
Whiz-bang brochures and flashy product catologues?  Don't think so.
