Various forms of Devi are described in the process and the three primal forms, Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and MahaSaraswati correspond to the three gunas, Rajas, Tamas and Sattva. The twelfth chapter of Devi Mahatmyam states that Devi grants whatever the seeker wishes for, both material prosperity and Supreme knowledge if Goddess Chandi is pleased.
