CHANDI HOMAM

Chandi Homam is the recitation of the Devi Mahatmyam, a portion of the Markandeya Purana, while ghee and other specific offerings are made into the fire. Please join us in this Homa this Sunday at the Sai Temple Home Kunda. To have your name included int he sankalpam in the beginning visit CHANDI .
The text speaks about the glory of Goddess Chandika, Her victory over the asuras Shumba- Nishumba, Mahishasura and Madhu- Kaitapa.
Various forms of Devi are described in the process and the three primal forms, Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and MahaSaraswati correspond to the three gunas, Rajas, Tamas and Sattva. They represent the Primordial Adi Shakti, and are unlike Parvati, Lakshmi and Saraswati who are the feminine forms of the male gods of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.
The Matsya Purana prescribes reciting Devi Mahatmyam over specific number of times to achieve different results, like reciting three times for cure form physical ailments, nine times for ensuring peace and so on. The twelfth chapter of Devi Mahatmyam states that Devi grants whatever the seeker wishes for, both material prosperity and Supreme knowledge if Goddess Chandi is pleased.
