MTTC announces Acorn Innovation Fund winners
The MTTC Acorn Innovation Awards - funded by the Commonwealth's Innovation Commercialization Seed Fund - support the demonstration of technologies developed at Massachusetts universities. These awards are used to further develop a prototype or to gather additional data in order to show proof of concept. Each of the following awards are for $10K.

NEIBC: Funding Opportunities U.S. - Israel Cooperation for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
A project proposal must include R&D cooperation between two companies or cooperation between a company and a university/research institution (one from the U.S. and one from Israel). The proposal should have significant commercial potential and the project outcome should lead to commercialization.
Examples of areas of research and development themes within the scope of this call are: Solar Power, Alternative Fuels, Advanced Vehicle Technologies, Smart Grid, Water-Energy Nexus, Wind Energy, Advanced Manufacturing or any other Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency technology.
Submission Deadline: August 21, 2017
Initial concept submissions are due by July 6, 2017, and full proposals are due by August 21, 2017.
MLSC's
Massachusetts Transition and Growth Program (MassTAG)
The Massachusetts Transition and Growth Program ("MassTAG") will provide grant funding to encourage companies to establish operations in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Critical objectives for this program are job creation, scientific advancement that will benefit patients and further growth of the Massachusetts life sciences ecosystem. The program will focus on companies that do not initially qualify for the MLSC's tax incentive program due to a lack of existing operations in the Commonwealth. For more information, click here.
Funding Available for Massachusetts Tech Startups - MassTech Intern Partnership
The MassTech Intern Partnership was launched for Summer 2017
. This programs helps the Commonwealth provide meaningful innovation economy work experiences for local students and graduates, helping us ultimately retain more talent.
MassTech provides matching funds of up to $3,200 to tech firms who hire a local intern for the summer. In particular, we hope that companies focused in digital health, cyber security, robotics, and IoT/advanced manufacturing will take advantage of this program. Through a partnership with the New England Venture Capital Association, firms and interns participating in this program also gain the benefits of the TechGen Network.

MassCEC Catalyst Awardee and MassChallenge Alumnus is Producing a Portable Fridge That Runs on Sun and Water. Boston-based startup
Evaptainers is developing a portable fridge that doesn't need electricity.The company, which is now headquartered at MassChallenge as an "alumni in residence," started in a class of the MIT Development Lab.

Harvard Biotech Spinout Lands $10M to Make Platelets From Stem Cells. Platelet Biogenesis is a Boston-based startup led by Sven Karlsson, president and co-founder and recent panelist at the MTTC's MALSI Day 2017.
Karlsson's startup aims to bring hospitals an alternative: platelets produced as needed from stem cells. Platelet BioGenesis, a spinout from Harvard University and Brigham and Women's Hospital, now has $10 million from a Series A round of funding to support preclinical testing of its regenerative medicine technology.

MIT is still the Bay State's patent powerhouse. The National Academy of Inventors named MIT, with a total of 278 patents in 2016, as the No. 2 university on its list of the top 100 worldwide universities granted U.S. patents in 2016. MIT has notably held the second-place position since the report was first compiled in 2013. Other MATTO institutions included on the list are: Harvard College, the University of Massachusetts, Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center, Inc., and Northeastern University. Read more
UMass President Meehan awards $735K to faculty science and technology initiatives
The projects showcase a range of cutting-edge faculty research being conducted across the UMass system, from enhancing clean energy technologies to developing materials that can autonomously release drugs and precisely target tumors.
The nine projects receiving grants from the Science & Technology Initiatives Fund - selected from a field of 23 proposals - are as follows:
