While the catechetical mission relies on the transmission of truth, effective methodologies, and clarity in doctrine, we cannot succeed without proclaiming joy (not to be confused with happiness)! Julianne Stanz will explore key necessities for sustaining our own joy, the keys to being joyful leaders and authentically spreading this joy to others. Just as hikers need essential resources in their backpacks in order to fully enjoy their pilgrim path, we must be sure that our backpacks are filled with the spiritual necessities needed to proclaim a joy that lengthens and widens the pilgrim path for all those we serve. Enrich your faith and strengthen your soul in this engaging presentation for ministry leaders. A practical, humorous and energetic presentation designed to uplift and strengthen you in faith!

Lead Well by Living Into Adaptive Leadership

By Jim Ladoux

Adaptive leadership necessitates changes in how we approach situations as well as how we think and act.

Adaptive leaders THINK differently
  1. They have a scenario mindset. Leaders who create plans that are set in concrete will not be able to change quickly enough to adapt to a constantly changing ministry landscape. Leaders need to imagine alternative scenarios based on people's interests and energies move, what's happening in society, and what other similar organizations are doing.

  2. They demonstrate a humble mindset. They recognize their limitations and don't pretend to have all the answers. They seek out the shared wisdom of others and celebrate other people's viewpoints and contributions. They see themselves as both a teacher and a student.

  3. They are naturally curious. They are a sponge for new ideas and approaches. They listen deeply and observation what's going on around them. They ask thoughtful and probing questions that surface issues others haven't considered. They take notes and have a place to park information and ideas for future reference.

Planning for Success in Catechesis

by Daniel S. Mulhall

I was recently talking with a friend who was in the midst of developing a curriculum for high school age students. He mentioned that his starting point was the high school framework the bishops created in 2008. Having worked on the high school framework while on the staff at the USCCB, I know them quite well and like them very much. My words to him may have come as a surprise: "Don't start with the framework. They are a means to accomplish a goal. First, determine your goal, and then decide how you will use the framework to accomplish your goal."  Read more...

Faith Formation for the Generations & Seasons of Adulthood

with John Roberto of Lifelong Faith Associates

One of the key features of twenty-first century adult faith formation is addressing the unique life tasks, needs, interests, and spiritual and faith journeys at each stage of adulthood: young adults (20s-30s), midlife adults (40s-50s), mature adults (mid 50s-mid 70s), and older adults (75+).

Given this great diversity across the adult stage of life, it is imperative that adult faith formation programs, activities, and resources are targeted and tailored to the lives of adults-at each stage of life and in each generation.

This webinar will provide practical approaches for addressing the four seasons of adulthood using new 21st century tools and methods.

Observing the 2017 Fortnight for Freedom

Each year the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops invites Catholics to observe The Fortnight for Freedom which runs from June 21-the vigil of the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More-to July 4, Independence Day. Protecting religious freedom, previously assumed to be a fundamental part of the American constitutional order, is now considered controversial. Why have the TIPS reporting link on your parish or school website?

Make employees, volunteers, parents, and participants part of your risk management team.

In many cases of abuse in organizations, someone reports noticing something suspicious or inappropriate but doesn't say anything-until after the fact!

  • We all joked about Bill spending so much time in the shower. After his arrest we realized he hung around the showers because that's where the campers were.

  • Other teachers thought it was odd, the students constantly coming to her classroom. She gave them nicknames and asked them to smell her perfume, but I never actually saw her doing anything illegal. And the students seemed to like it.

  • He acted more like a kid than a coach. But I was afraid if I complained, he would take it out on my son.
To maintain a culture of safety, you want everyone in your organization to be a part of your risk management team. When someone sees a co-worker behaving in a way that looks suspicious, you want that person to take action before it's too late. If a parent has a concern, the sooner you hear about it, the sooner you can respond. (Praesidium)

Contact the Office of Child and Youth Protection for instructions on how to place the diocesan TIPS logo and link on your parish or school website.  This is a free service from the diocese.
