Mark Gottesman Earns Pegasus Award
Eleventh grader Mark Gotesman's submission to this year's Bergen County Writing Contest  entitled "The Nature of Macbeth"  earned him the third prize award in the Scholarly Essay Category. This is the first time that Torah Academy of Bergen County has made a showing in this contest that accepts hundreds of submissions from high schools throughout Bergen County.  During the June 8th award ceremony, sponsored by the English Department of Bergen Comm unity College, a portion of each honoree's winning entry was read aloud. Even before the ceremony, the founder and co-director of this contest told Mark and Dr. Master, his English teacher who sponsored his submission, that even after reading so many submissions, he remembered Mark's and was amazed at the insight of a high school junior who could so deeply understand the intricate interplay between Macbeth and his wife.  All those who wish to read Mark's essay can do so as it has been  published in the 2017 edition of the Bergen Community College publication  Pegasus .

11th Grade Tzurba D'Rabanan Celebrates

Rabbi Yablok and the 11th grade Tzurba D'rabanan celebrated their year long study of Masechet Moed Katan with Dougie's. Over the year, the talmidim learned both independently and in a chabura while they covered the various sugyot of Chol Hamoed and Aveilut during their Mincha breaks.

TABC Marches in Celebrate Israel Parade
TABC believes firmly in the importance and centrality of Israel in Jewish life. As such, we are proud to have marched down 5th Avenue as part of the Celebrate Israel parade last Sunday.

We had the zechut of being briefly joined on the parade route by Rav Rosensweig, a world renowned Rosh Yeshiva in Yeshiva University, who has taught many of our rebbeim over the years. For more photos click here and here.

Yom Yerushalayim Educates and Inspires at TABC
TABC celebrated Yom Yerushalyim with the entire yeshiva joining together for davening, including Hallel. The group then heard from Rav Reuven Taragin, Ra"m in Yeshivat HaKotel, who poignantly described the religious significance of Yerushalyim. After enjoying blue and white donuts, the students went by bus to the AMC theater to see "In Our Hands:Battle for Jerusalem," a film portraying the events of the Six Day War. Ki m'Tzion teitze Torah u'dvar Hashem m'Yerushalyim. For more pictures click here.

TABC's Torah Blooms in School and Across the Community Over Shavuot
TABC's Beit Midrash was filled to capacity on Shavuot night, with overflow into other rooms to accommodate the crowd of 175 people who came to learn. TABC rebbeim were on hand to give shiurim and to learn with their students. Many of the boys who do not live in the Teaneck/Bergenfield area stayed with friends for the Chag, so that they could participate in the Tikkun Leil Shavuot in their yeshiva. TABC is proud that its talmidim celebrate z'man matan Torateinu in the same Beit Midrash that they engage in the mitzvah of talmud Torah daily.

For the fourth year in a row, TABC's rebbeim presented a series of shiurim for adults over Shavuot.  These year's talks were hosted by Beth Abraham, Keter Torah, Beth Aaron and Bnai Yeshurun. Each presentation was a variation on the theme of  "Vehalachta B'drachav - Walk in His Ways: A Message for all of Humanity." Topics included: The Multi-layered Charge of Charity; Ani Hashem Rofecha: The Practice of Medicine as Imitatio Dei; Ki Kadosh Ani: Cultivating Personal Sacredness; Chesed in Chinuch: Balancing the Growth of the Student and the Mechanech. It was wonderful opportunity for the community to experience the high level limmud hatorah that their children are privileged to benefit from every day.
STORM JV Soccer League Champs!
Last week, the TABC Storm beat the Frisch Cougars 5-4 to win the championship, thanks to a last second goal by sophomore Dylan Breen. With both teams entering the finals red hot, fans were in store for a thrilling match. Everyone packed into the Ma'ayanot gym on a Friday afternoon for what would turn out to be an amazing game between some of the most talented players in the yeshiva league. The Storm, coming off a huge semifinal win against Magen David, split their regular season games with Frisch; this would be the perfect way to break the tie.
The game opened up slowly, with both teams creating a lot of chances, but neither one scoring in the first quarter. Frisch came out strong in the second quarter, as freshman Zali Tolinsky scored back to back goals to give Frisch an early lead. TABC, now facing an uphill battle to get themselves back into the game, needed one of their stars to step up and close in on the Cougars' lead. Sophomore Yonadav Rimberg did just that, scoring a nice goal to put TABC within one. Rimberg was dominant throughout the playoffs, scoring a collective 11 points in TABC's two playoff games, and continued to display his talent in the championship. STORM Track Team Takes The Championship!
The Yeshiva League track championship was recently held at Red Hook Park in Brooklyn, New York. TABC sent about twenty students to the meet, more than the other participating schools (which were SAR, Flatbush, Maayanot, Heschel, and Kushner).  TABC began the day strongly, placing second, third, and fourth in the long jump, the first event of the day.  Shortly afterwards, Yehoshua Kanarek took 1st place in the 400m race.  Also notable was our second place finish in the 4x100 relay and in the 3200m.  Despite a very strong performance by Heschel, TABC overall came in first place, ahead of Heschel by ten points.  Captains Avi Cooper and Yaakov Wieder proudly hoisted the trophy, and coaches Benjy Shulman and Jesse Seidman treated the entire team to donuts.   We are thrilled to have won our fourth straight track championship, and look forward to continuing the streak next spring.
Seniors Travel to Orlando
The Senior Trip to Florida was a wonderful last outing together for the grade. They visited Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, enjoyed seeing Blue Man Group and went jet skiing, water skiing, and water tubing at Lake Bryan. The trip continued at Sea World, followed by miniature golf at Pirate's Cove, Busch Gardens Tampa and a stop at the Air Heads Trampoline Arena. TABC will miss you, seniors! For more pictures, click here.

Virginia is for Juniors
The junior trip to Virginia was wonderful culmination of a year replete with bonding experiences for the grade. The first stop on the trip was in Baltimore, as the group watched  the   Orioles take on the Toronto Blue Jays  in Camden Yards. No high school  trip  is complete without some games of bowling, which the  juniors  did at AMF Lanes. Monday was jam packed with activities, beginning with a tour of Colonial Williamsburg, continuing at the Williamsburg Outlets,  a visit to Ripley's Believe it or Not and concluding with the water park  at Great Wolf Lodge.  A  midnight  barbecue capped off the night. On Tuesday, the group displayed their recent coming of age to be able to learn how to drive by going  to  G Force Karts. Everyone returned to TABC feeling more unified and ready to take on the mantle of the senior leaders of the school. For more pictures click here.

Science Olympiad Team Celebrates with a Barbecue with Doc Berman
It required three years of team building until a new TABC Science Olympiad retook 1st place at the Landers College in Queens. As a summer send off, a BBQ was organized. The lead off speaker was Doc Berman. He offered his interpretation of a puzzling Mishna, the 9th Mishna in the third perek of Perkei Avot. Briefly, the Mishna warns that if an individual is traveling down the road, simultaneously reviewing his Torah learning, and stops his learning to admire a beautiful plowed field or a beautiful tree, he is playing with his life. Dr. Berman explained that the key phrase is that he "stopped his learning". Had he simply acknowledged the the same Hashem in his Torah learning created the field and tree, perhaps by saying "mah rabu maasehcha Hashem, kulom bechochma asitah - how great are your deeds Hashem, all performed with great wisdom", he would have avoided any trouble.

After Dr. Berman finished Rabbi Miretzky delivered a great quantity of delicious hot dogs and hamburgers that he had been grilling outside. Special thanks to Rabbi Miretzky who had much to do with organizing a very pleasant evening.

Whether it's the Monsey Simchas Beis Hashoveh or the Science Olympiad, Rabbi Grossman, by unanimous popular demand, is the clean up hitter. This was a special treat for the team as they never had him as a Rebbe. His friendly manner of delivery held the audience captive. He warned the team that they are the "cream of the crop". As such, said Rabbi Grossman, much is expected of them. He seamlessly weaved two Mishniot from Perkei Avot, commentary from Perkei d'Rabbi Eilezer, two pesukim from last week's Parashot, a Rashi, and capped with a darash from Rabbi Moshe Feinstein from his sefer Darash Moshe. He distilled the responsibilities to such a gifted group as the Science Olympiad team to "Lev tov and roeh et hanolad" - a good heart and the ability to anticipate the outcome of events. A good heart makes a well-rounded Jewish citizen. The ability to anticipate the outcome of events makes a great leader.

Have a great summer!

Olam HaChochma Reception
The TABC Distinguished Scholars Program recently held its annual banquet. The rising sophomore scholars engaged in presentations throughout the year which taught them how to properly research and then subsequently present their future findings. The banquet afforded them the opportunity to present their preliminary ideas for topics, which they will spend the next year researching extensively. After each presentation, the current sophomore scholars, and several teachers, added their insights and guidance. The night began with introductory comments by program director Mrs. Deniera Goldenberg. Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Adler gave a dvar Torah, connecting the banquet to Yom Yerushalyim and sophomore scholar Ned Krasnopolsky stressed the Torah U'Madda component of the program. The school eagerly awaits the upcoming fruits of the scholars' labor. A Heartfelt Way to End a Year of Shiurim
Rabbi Blau's Y11 Chumash shiur marked their last day of class with an end of the year kumzitz. It was a fitting ending of year of limmud aimed at engaging the talmidim's minds and touching their hearts. Kol Hakavod to Joe Baron '19 for leading the kumzitz.
