Canterbury & St. Nicholas Choirs Enjoy a Party
|
The Canterbury and St. Nicholas Choirs had a great time at their season-ending party at the home of Jack & Kathleen Chandler on Saturday May 20th. The choirs enjoyed the Chandler's pond and decorated their director, Mr. Shafer, with shaving cream during the festivities. (YES, that is Mr. Shafer!)
Our children's choirs return in August.

Many thanks to David Penix for coordinating Saint Paul's involvement with the VA 2K event. Members of Outreach met with Courtney and Dee from voluntary services at the VA Medical Center to help them shop for needed items that our church is donating to their department. In addition to those items collected at Saint Paul's , personal care and food items were purchased by outreach and will be used to serve homeless veterans as well as outpatient and inpatient veterans and their families. Courtney and Dee were thrilled to be part of the shopping process as it allowed them to pick the items that were most needed by the veterans. They were very grateful for our church's involvement. It seems that there are many needs and opportunities for us to be involved with their programs; this is the beginning of a wonderful new friendship. Thank you, David, for your leadership and for making this a very personal experience.

Summer Formation
A History of Christianity (video & conversation) Clergy led. June 4 - August 13,
9:30-10:30 AM,
Berlin Room,
Until our normal formation programs for children, youth, and adults resume on August 20th, we are offering a video and discussion series about the surprising history of our faith. Drop in ANY Sunday, you won't be disappointed.
Each Sunday we will watch a 30 minute installment of Diarmaid MacCulloch's brilliant BBC documentary followed by conversation.
"A History Of Christianity is intelligent, thought-provoking and magisterial in its scope. The series uncovers how a small Jewish sect that preached humility became the biggest religion in the world. Most Christian histories start with St Paul's mission to Rome, but Diarmaid MacCulloch argues that the first Christianity stayed much closer to its Middle-Eastern roots. He describes not only the main ideas and personalities of Christian history but how it has changed politics, sex, and human society. The series includes subjects from Palestine in the first century to India in the third, from Damascus to China in the seventh century and from San Francisco to Korea in the twentieth. He shows how, after a semblance of unity in its earliest centuries, the Christian church divided during the next 1400 years into three increasingly distanced parts, of which the western Church was by no means always the most important..." |
