Building a Tiny Cottage Village in Port Orchard
Ekklesia has been actively involved with the development of a new Tiny Cottage Village for the homeless in Kitsap County. This new village in Port Orchard illustrates Eklesia's commitment to serve the poor, unsheltered and hurting in our community. This is God's command to his people in Isaiah 58:7. "...to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter." Thank you to the many volunteers in Ekklesia, partner churches and our Port Orchard community who have partnered with us to build three tiny cottages and paint them last weekend! We now  have  partners who  have  committed to fully fund twelve cottages . Our community partners just need to build them or we need to find crews to build them. So many individuals or organizations are expressing interest in funding a cottage that the problem of finding construction crews is beginning to increase! This is a good problem to have!
The painting party Ekklesia hosted last Saturday brought out many people from our community who simply wanted to be a part of this new adventure. The idea of building tiny houses for the homeless excites many who have nothing to do with established churches but find an attraction with the idea of helping those who are in need.

We are now prepared to move the first three cottages to strategic locations in our community to advertise the development of the new Tiny Cottage Village. We also wish to give a big thank you to the Sherwin Williams Co. for their donation of paint for the cottages! The Kitsap County "Homes For All" committee is now in the process of deciding on a location for the village. When the location is determined many steps will be taken to prepare the property and the buildings to be located in the village.
Three completed tiny cottages - 8'x12' with two windows.
A portable is to be donated from the Central Kitsap School District. This additional building will be renovated and turned into a community kitchen on one half and a bath/shower facility on the other half. Ekklesia workers will be vitally involved in the whole process and are offering assistance to many of the other organizations that are participating in the building of cottages. If anyone is interested in hearing more about this ministry to the homeless please contact Tim Blair at (360) 801-0012.
