Dear Friends,
We are pleased to be participating in the community-wide Tikun Leil Shavuot, Standing on the Edge of Sinai, tomorrow, Tuesday, May 30. Cantor Frost and Cantor Green will be performing with featured artist Neshama Carlebach. There will be a Shavuot service at BJBE on Wednesday, May 31.
 
Be a part of the quorum and have a voice in the life of the congregation! Join your BJBE community at the Annual Meeting, Monday, June 5. To highlight our partnership with Glenkirk, they will be staffing the Beit Cafe starting at 6:30pm. The meeting will start at 7:00pm with reports and opportunities to vote on the 2017/18 budget and board slate. There is always an interesting and informative Q & A.
Babysitting is available with an advance registration.

This Saturday, we look forward to celebrating the B'nai Mitzvah of Matthew Brostoff and Robert Getty at the morning service; Bar Mitzvah of Jake Levine at Kol Shabbat; and Bat Mitzvah of Rachel Applebaum at the Havdalah service. Mazel tov to Matthew, Robert, Jake, Rachel and their families.

The BJBE office is closed today (Monday) in observance of Memorial Day and will be closed on Wednesday, May 31 in observance of Shavuot.

BJBE Annual Meeting, Monday, June 5. In partnernship with Glenkirk, enjoy coffee and snacks at the Beit Cafe at 6:30pm followed by the meeting at 7:00pm. Friday, June 9, 7:30pm, Leadership Shabbat. Please join us for this sacred and significant service as we install new Co-presidents Tracy Friend and Lisa Wilson, the 2017/18 Board of Trustees and Sisterhood Board. We will also be dedicating our beautiful new Torah mantles.

YOUTH PROGRAMS
BJBE is committed to meeting the needs of our children of all ages. To keep our tweens and teens engaged with Judaism throughout their middle and high school years, we offer opportunities for sacred friendship, connection, learning, social action, leadership, travel and fun. Our programming is on break for summer while many of our teens are away at camp or traveling - however, keep your eyes here or check our website for fall events!

Be inspired by the beautiful music at our last tefilah band service of the year!

Shabbat mornings feature our
Kol Shabbat Service at 9:30am followed by Torah Study at 11:00am. Marcus Newman will lead Torah Study this Saturday.   
 
Wednesday Morning Minyan :   Begin your day in a beautiful and powerful way by attending our Wednesday morning Minyan from 6:45am to 7:15am. Each week we pray in the intimate space of the Chapel with a supportive, welcoming group. Experience a prayer service grounded in communal song, thought-provoking liturgy, and deep silence, followed by camaraderie over bagels and coffee. Morning Minyan participants have commented that this worship has connected to their lives in many unexpected and transformative ways. For more information, contact 
Cantor Green. The weekday prayer melodies are available here, although all are welcome to attend regardless of musical or prayerbook knowledge.

DAYTIME AT BJBE  
Monday Canasta/Mahjong: The Sisterhood will host Canasta and Mahjong games on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 1:00pm. All are welcome to join in the fun. To participate, RSVP to
Sharon Krivitzky and let her know which game you will be playing and if you can bring supplies.

ednesday Morning Minyan:  Our weekday morning Minyan meets i n the BJBE Chapel from 6:45 - 7:15am. For more information, contact

Thursday Tai Chi Chu'an: We offer a weekly Thursday morning Tai Chi class led by Dr. Drew Serlin at 7:30am.  There is no charge for these classes.

Prepare for Prayer-Open Your Heart. Please join us for 15 minutes of silent meditation from 9:10-9:25am in the Sanctuary, Saturdays before Kol Shabbat. This ancient custom is meant to help you transition from busy life, settle your mind and open your heart prior to your prayer practice. No meditation experience necessary! SOCIAL ACTION NETWORK
We are collecting toiletries, batteries, hearing aids, eyeglasses, ink cartridges, and cell phones. Thank you for your generous donations.   
We are NOT collecting used clothing at this time. 

May Tzedakah 
Chicago Chesed battles hunger, prevents eviction and homelessness, and helps the unemployed secure jobs within the Jewish community.  They offer a wide array of free merchandise to needy families, provide holiday and Jewish lifecycle event assistance, and help send children to Jewish schools and camps.  In addition, as a member partner of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, they offer food assistance on nondiscriminatory basis to local clients who show a demonstrable need.  

CARING COMMUNITY 
BJBE's Caring Community is a team of volunteers who can act as your extended family when your family needs additional support.  Caring Community provides the following services: home delivered meals in times of need, transportation to/from temple or a medical appointment, phone support for people who are ill or lonely, senior education and caregiver support, chicken or vegetable soups (always available in the kitchen!) and a virtual food pantry.  To access these services confidentially, please call Gloria Kaiz at 847-945-3741.

The Caring Community and CJE Senior Life are pleased to offer individual appointments at no charge with Senior Health Insurance Counselor Esther Craven. Esther has over 25 years of experience at CJE. As a benefits specialist, she offers assistance and advocacy in areas of Medicare, health insurance and resources for retirement. Individual appointments with Esther are available at BJBE on Monday, June 12, 3:00 - 6:30pm. Please email  Phyllis Pearlman or call her in the temple office at 847.940.7575.

BJBE is certified as a Safer Synagogue by Jewish Community Abuse Resources, Education & Solutions (JCARES). Our leadership has been trained in understanding the impact of abuse across the lifespan and improving access to support for congregants experiencing abusive situations. JUDAICA (GIFT) SHOP     
Stop by the Judaica Shop to see the new wall and shelf art by Gary Rosenthal, including chais and hamsas for your home. We have some new tzedakah boxes for baby gifts, candles from Safed and a lot of new mezuzahs for the home. And take a look at our "love" sculpture for wedding glass shards-a beautiful piece at a very low price!

The Judaica Shop is open Fridays 30 minutes prior to and following Friday night services, Wednesdays 1:00pm-3:00pm, Sundays during the summer when the building is open 9:30am-11:30am, and always by special appointment by calling Lynne at 847-215-1357.
