Hurry! Registration for Camp CSTP closes on June 18.
This week-long teacher leadership professional learning opportunity will take place July 17-21, 2017, at the Rainbow Lodge in North Bend. Three sessions will be offered during the week and teachers can pick and choose individual sessions, or attend all three sessions.

Description: Explore CSTP's Teacher Leadership Framework - the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to be an effective teacher leader. Spend time crafting what your teacher leadership journey might be as you emerge with a strong foundation in teacher leadership.

Description: Understanding how to effectively advocate on education issues you care about is a critical skill for a teacher leader. Develop skills to craft your message that you can adapt to a variety of audiences, whether it is in your own hallway at school or in the halls of Olympia. This deeper dive into advocacy provides you with two days of planning, refining and practicing your message using CSTP tools and feedback from critical friends.
Session III: Writers' Retreat:

Description: Develop your writing skills and writing style to elevate your voice and write about your teacher leadership journey. This multi-day writing retreat will give you the gift of dedicated time to write and expert feedback to hone your writing. Participants' writing will be published in a booklet. 2017 Teacher Leadership Grant Opportunity 
 The Washington State National Board Network Partners, CSTP, OSPI and WEA, have come together to offer up to 25 teacher leadership grants to teacher leaders all over the state. Each grant will be $2350 and will fund those teacher leaders to collaboratively develop innovative resources, structures and protocols and to test them in their building or district. Each applicant will choose to work in one of the following areas under the leadership of the NBCT Content Area Specialist listed here:
A. Support for New and Early Career Teachers; NBCT Betsy Cornell
B. Support for Professional Learning Communities; NBCT Mark Gardner
C. Support for Instructional Leadership: NBCT Principal Maria Lucero
The purpose for this grant is to embed tools and resources from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards that support the area of focus. The three primary resources called the Body of Knowledge are:
The Washington NB Network Partners believe that in order to support the culture of learning and growth within our schools and communities, each student needs access to accomplished teaching. These tools and resources from the National Board define what accomplished teaching looks like and supports growing practice to an accomplished level throughout the professional continuum from early career to instructional teacher leadership.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Eligible applicants must already be established as leaders in their building and/or district in the selected focus area.
- Eligible applicants must be planning to work and lead in the selected focus area in the 2017-2018 school year.
- Eligible applicants must have administrative support and be able to test new ideas, strengthen existing work, collect data and report data throughout the grant period (July 2017 through June 2018).
- Eligible applicants must be available to participate in a three-day workshop to learn and to collaborate in the area of focus.
- Workshop Dates: July 13, 14 and 15, 2017, at WEA Headquarters in Federal Way, WA. All travel, meals and lodging are covered.
- Eligible applicants must be available for up to four virtual meetings to discuss successes, challenges and ideas for improvement during the 2017-18 school year. Meeting dates to be determined.

Apply Now to Revise Standards for Beginning Teacher Induction
BEST is forming a team to begin revising the Standards for Beginning Teacher Induction. The team will review current induction research, propose revisions, and explicitly address unique needs of teachers of special education. The team will work for a few days in late June and may continue into next year. More information can be found at http://www.k12.wa.us/RFP/. Applications are due 4:00 p.m. on June 2, 2017. OSPI's 2017 NBCT Facilitator Training Registration Open
To ensure consistency across the state for National Board candidates who are seeking this certification, facilitators are required to take Facilitator Training prior to hosting a cohort.
This three-day training hones facilitation knowledge and skills, provides a deeper understanding of the revised National Board process, as well as develops skills in working with adult learners. Attendees must attend all three days to become a facilitator trainer. The cost for this training is $60 per day. Current offerings are:

NBCT Leadership Conference
About 60 NBCTs gathered together for an inspirational and rejuvenating teacher leadership experience at the NBCT Leadership Conference earlier this month in Leavenworth. This conference designed by and for NBCTs is designed on building the knowledge and skills of teacher leaders using the CSTP Teacher Leadership Framework. NBCT-attendees attending presentations of their NBCT colleagues, heard keynotes from NBCTs Mark Gardner and Sean Riley, networked and met new NBCT friends across the state, heard from the NBCT State Network Partners (CSTP, OSPI and WEA) and basked in the warm sun and glorious setting of the Sleeping Lady Resort.
One NBCT attendee said "
After I became an NBCT in School Counseling I took some time to reflect on the process and concentrate on my job. After seeing the NBCT Conference advertised for years I decided to attend with my friend. The facilitators encouraged me to identify what roles I was already leading in my profession and new roles that may be of interest. It taught me that leading in schools does not mean moving up in supervisory roles necessarily. Leading means advocating, mentoring, supporting, deeply listening, and helping others in our profession. The conference gave me clarity and motivated me take that next step as an NBCT leader. I'm now considering facilitating a cohort or becoming involved in leading in my state school counseling association in addition to my district leadership opportunities. What a wonderful opportunity to learn about yourself and connect with others on a similar journey!"

CSTP's Teacher Leadership Lab Training

| North Thurston Public Schools Leadership Lab on PLCs |
CSTP hosted 2 Leadership Labs in May. Leadership Labs are an opportunity for schools or districts to share work they are doing to improve student learning in a small, intimate "fishbowl" setting. On May 11, Salter's Point Elementary School in Steilacoom shared the work they have been doing around student engagement and using student perception surveys as a tool for teacher learning and growth. Participants were able to listen to teachers talk about how they have used student perception data to change and improve instructional practice as well as how this work was used to create improved student engagement in the classroom and beyond throughout the school.
On May 24th, CSTP hosted another Leadership Lab, this time with the River Ridge High School Math Department PLC in North Thurston Public Schools in Lacey. The PLC members shared how they moved from a compliance based PLC to a PLC focused on collaborative work, deepening instructional practice and using student data to inform daily practice, scheduling and professional development. They also shared how using elements of systems thinking and working with adult learners helped them create a work and learning environment that members want to be a part of.
