A Home for Every Musician:
Music School's Anniversary Weekend  Celebrates Open Doors & Musical Community

In January, a burst pipe in the Music School's Community Room sent water pouring through the building, causing significant damage to the Music School's newer wing.

In May, after four months of reconstruction, the doors opened on the beautifully renewed space, and the halls were flooded... with musicians!

Packs of Purple Finches Youth Chorus members, flurries of folk musicians, hosts of Himalaya Heritage music students, a plethora of pianists, profusions of jazz performers, and more, performed all day at the Music School and on Main Street in Concord, celebrating the Music School's 30th Annual Performathon and Concord's Capital Arts Festival.

More than 250 student performers, ages 6-93, sent music floating through the hallways and down the streets of Concord, raising money for the Music School's Financial Aid Fund.

Each year, the Performathon shines a spotlight on the Music School's commitment to making it possible for anyone to study with the Music School's great faculty of teaching artists, regardless of financial means. More than half of the Music School's 1400 students receive free or reduced cost instruction every week.

As part of the weekend's celebration, five Music School alumni, now professional jazz and classical musicians from New Hampshire, Boston, and Cleveland, brought the house down at the Music School's annual Gala Alumni Concert. Elizabeth Blood, piano, Courtney Bonifant, viola, Peter Lehmann, piano, Chris Veilleux, saxophones, and Phil Sargent, guitar, plus members of the Sonic Explorers, presented a stellar evening of music ranging from Bach's Cello Suite #3 to toe-tapping jazz standards.

Many thanks to Merrimack County Savings Bank for their sponsorship of Anniversary Weekend, and to you, the friends of the Music School, for your ongoing support, which helps make a great musical education and community accessible to all!
