Bishop Hardy Returns to Hong Kong

After traveling 24 hours straight, Bishop Hardy landed at 11:45 PM in Hong Kong on May 30th and was there for five days. This trip was a follow-up to the December 2016 trip and was intended to further the discussions regarding the Hong Kong Lutheran Church. He took two young men with him who will be serving the Church this summer in a two-month internship with the Hong Kong Lutheran Synod (HKLS) office.
After meetings with President Yung and other denominational leaders, they visited three new mission sites that are exciting opportunities in our new partnership with the Hong Kong Lutheran Church (HKLC). The HKLS is in significant need of workers, that is to say, they want people to come over and assist them with teaching and other educational opportunities. Rev. Tom Engler is working on short-term mission teams, and we are asking anyone who is desirous of going on an adventure to contact us. Both the internships and the teaching opportunities are paid and accommodations are provided. There is little need for money other than the cost of the food you eat and entertainment in Hong Kong. There are immediate needs for teaching in their international school for the fall and the process needs to be started soon in order for the visas and paperwork to be completed. Please reach out to Bishop Hardy's office if you have any interest or even just want to talk about it. This opportunity is a great way to experience church work in a different cultural environment and to see a part of God's creation in a far away place.

Process for Calling Commissioned Ministers

The English District Bishop/President, executives and staff are committed to assisting you in the process of calling the best commissioned minister for your ministry and mission needs as a congregation or school.
The first step in extending a call to a commissioned worker (Deaconess, Director of Christian Education, Director of Christian Outreach, Director of Family Life Ministry, Director of Parish Music, Lay Minister, Parish Assistant or Teacher) begins with making you aware of the process established, completing the information form, and returning a copy of the information pages to our Administrative Assistant to School Ministry and Mission Executives at the District office. Once these forms have been received, Evelyn Jentzen, administrative assistant, will continue the process outlined with you.

Supporting Life
At the Prince of Peace, Stroh, IN, Women's Gathering, baby items were collected for the Compassion Pregnancy Center in LaGrange. The center serves in-need pregnant women and their families. They offer support from the pre-natal stage through age two. The donation of 38 onesies, 20 baby bottles, 24 packages of diaper wipes and 15 blankets helped fill a need at the center.

Traveling for history
The History Bee competitors are back from a whirlwind trip to Nationals in Atlanta, GA. They did a fantastic job in representing Hales Corners Lutheran Middle School, Hales Corners, WI, on the national stage. Mason was one point short of making it to finals, placing 66 out of 349 peers from around the country. Elias placed 198 out of 349. We thank God for their talents!

Up on a roof
The 1st-5th grade students at Hales Corners Lutheran Elementary were given an Accelerated Reader challenge to read and earn 13,000 points by May 26. They took the challenge seriously and earned more than needed to put Mrs. Bartholomew on the roof of the school for a day. She spent the day doing homework for the top reader in each class (which she received by pulling a bucket up to the roof) completing teacher reviews, and working on other important paperwork. Way to go HCL students!

The LWML English District just finished their 37th Biennium. LWML can best be described by our mission statement:
The mission of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) is to assist each woman of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world.
The main emphasis of the LWML is to encourage women to be in the study of God's Word and to share its message with people in our lives. As women of the LWML, we feel the importance of being in God's word, of missions, and of service and fellowship, and we want to share this with other women.

Vicarage Placements (CTSFW)

At the end of November, 2017, Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN (CTSFW) will have four vicarage candidates leaving for their year of service. One of the candidates has requested the possibility of a convertible vicarage as he will be done with his coursework. If you know of a vacant congregation who would be open to such an arrangement, please contact Kathy Stanis in the president's office at 248-476-0039 ext 312 or by email at [email protected].
CTSFW also has a blind student who will be ready for vicarage next summer (2018). He is married. If you know of any parishes or other unique opportunities for this man to serve for his year of vicarage, please contact Kathy Stanis.
