Michael's Memo

Many years ago I had the privilege of attending graduate school classes led by Bernard Brandon Scott. It is not often that one has the opportunity to learn from the author of the classes textbook, but that was the case with Dr. Scott. The book was called "Hear Then the Parable." It was widely recognized by scholars as the most important book of this generation about parables in the New Testament. Brandon, as I ended up calling him after defending a few papers and having lunch a few times, opened my mind to the religious genius who had discovered a unique and new vision of God that he shared with anyone and everyone he ever met. Jesus was the man's name and one could argue that his preferred form of teaching and sharing his vision of God was the parable.

This summer, following Pentecost, I will attempt to pass along some of what I learned as we explore Jesus' parables. Join us in worship as we reveal what we can discover about Jesus and his vision of the Kingdom of God and then together we will reimagine a world based on what the parables reveal. Then we can challenge one another to begin living in the world that Jesus imagined. Join us as we do our part to build the Kingdom.

En Agape',

Rev. Michael

Start More! is the theme for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 2017 Pentecost Offering, which will be celebrated Sunday, June 4 and June 11.  Starting new churches brings people together with new experiences and new ideas. You were invited to help babies and their families served by our Global Mission Partners and you responded by donating $700, that's 28 boxes, to be given to every mother who completes four prenatal visits to the clinic. This ministry is making a big difference to the health of babies in rural India.

General Assembly 17

Be a witness for ONEness!
In July we will gather as ONE for the 2017 General Assembly in Indianapolis. Thousands of Disciples gather from across the United States and Canada to demonstrate our unity in service to the Christ. We will hear inspiring messages, elect a new General Minister and President, hear about the results from Mission First! and learn together.

Bible studies on the theme text (John 17:20-21a) from scholars at Disciple-related seminaries are available online so you can go deeper into the scripture.

Volunteers Needed!
Nursery Ministry
Renee will be away in June, July, and August.  A sign up sheet will be posted on the nursery door for summer volunteers to keep the nursery.

Fellowship Cafe'

coffee_croissants.jpg

Stop by the Fellowship Café on Sunday mornings at 9:30 by the kitchen for some breakfast snacks, coffee and a time of fellowship.
Our café volunteer preparers come in early and set up the coffee, decaf, juice and snacks and then stay afterwards to clean up the kitchen. They also provide the juice. Thanks to Ann Bremner, Jessica Colbert, Melinda Gillam, Julie Moore, Shanna Penley, Carolyn Putnam and Catherine Young for serving in this ministry.
Individuals and families are invited to provide some breakfast snack food; donuts, muffins, pastries and/or fresh fruit. It's as easy as signing up on the sheet by the kitchen door. There are only 5 Sundays left before we take a break for the summer. Which Sunday will you be willing to bring the snacks?

The PRC also serves as another channel of communication which you can use to pass along praise and or concerns about Rev. Michael and all our ministries.

Again you are welcome to communicate directly with Rev. Michael or any of the current PRC members. They are Gen Bohannon, Alan Goodman, Christine Harrison, Sandra Loving, Jim Ostrander and Sherri Beth Smith.
