Sherman College Shares Vision in New Video
Seeing the potential for Sherman College’s further growth and impact, the Board of Trustees has approved a strategic Master Plan for the college. As they recognized, NOW is the right time to expand, to grow, and to become the preeminent chiropractic college in the world. An expansion announcement is made around the 6-minute mark. Students Help Carolina Miracle League Kick Off 10th Season

Sherman students recently helped celebrate the kickoff of the Carolina Miracle League's 10th anniversary season. The college sponsors a team and has several students involved in this league, which embraces the belief that “every child deserves a chance to play baseball.”

Sherman’s mascot Larry the Lion and Vice President for Business and Finance Karen Canup were celebrity buddies for the anniversary game. At the kickoff game, students helped by serving meals, but many students also serve as “buddies” during games throughout the season. Sherman College Sponsors The Assaults on Mt. Mitchell, Marion

The Sherman College of Chiropractic Health Center served as Cyclist Care + Support Sponsor for the 2017 Assaults on Mt. Mitchell and Marion on May 15. Interns provided spinal health screenings at the event expo the day before the race.

The Assaults is one of the most intense, premier cycling experiences that draws a full field of nearly 1,000 cyclists from across the world each year. The Assault on Mt. Mitchell is a one-day, 102.7 mile challenge that takes riders from Spartanburg, SC, to the top of the highest peak in the east, Mt. Mitchell; its sister ride, The Assault on Marion, stretches 74.2 miles from Spartanburg to Marion, NC.

Lyceum 2017 Charted a Successful Course
More than 660 chiropractors and students from across the U.S. and around the world joined us at Sherman College of Chiropractic May 4-6 as part of Lyceum, our annual continuing education and homecoming event. Lyceum is held on the college’s campus in Spartanburg, SC, each spring and involves three days of seminars, special events and other programs.

Board Busters Bash Recognizes Student Achievement

Student Affairs recently hosted a Board Busters Bash event for Sherman students who passed the NBCE on the first attempt. Faculty and administrators were in attendance to show support to the students and congratulate them on their accomplishments.

Students about Chiropractic

Sherman Students Billy Stetzel and Chris Marrone recently traveled to nearby Chesnee High School to talk about chiropractic and Sherman College. Stetzel and Marrone both enjoyed the experience of sharing the chiropractic profession with the class. 
In Memory of Former Health Center Dean, Don Thomas, D.C.
Don Thomas, D.C., an early college employee and former Dean of the Health Center, passed away on May 1. Thomas was a Palmer graduate and a long time Regent of the college. He mentored many students and alumni and will be missed. Thomas taught at Sherman College from 1973-1986, was in private practice from 1966 until his death, and also served as dean of the Chiropractic Health Center from 1975-1980. The family asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sherman College. Read more on our blog.
Showcase Sherman Weekend
Welcomes Prospective Students

Sherman College hosted its spring Showcase Sherman Weekend by welcoming 48 attendees and their 42 guests. It was a very successful weekend, and prospective students were able to interact with D.C.s from around the world during Lyceum. Check out the photo album.

Showcase Sherman Weekend is an event for prospective students to explore chiropractic and Sherman College and is designed to ignite students’ passion for leadership as well as help them begin their pursuit of becoming the next generation of DCs2B.

Board of Trustees Welcomes Dill, McCoy
Shawn Dill, D.C., and Matthew McCoy, D.C., have been appointed to the Sherman College of Chiropractic Board of Trustees. Their terms began on May 7, 2017, and members serve four-year terms. Read more about Dill and McCoy on our blog.

The Board of Trustees at Sherman College of Chiropractic is a visionary group of professionals dedicated to carrying out the college’s mission, goals and objectives to educate doctors of chiropractic, conduct relevant research, and serve humanity with high quality health care. 
New Online CE Offering: Brescia

Does your state allow you to utilize online continuing education for license renewal? Sherman College faculty member Rick Brescia, D.C., A.C.P., D.Ph.CS, has created a one-hour course on the Analysis of Lumbar and Pelvic Spine X-Rays. Topics include visual analysis of the lumbar curves, sacral base angle, disc height and more to line analysis of both A-P lumbopelvic and lateral lumbar views. Brescia has his diplomat in both Gonstead and Philosophical Standards and teaches technique courses at Sherman College. Additionally, he was a Lyceum and IRAPS presenter in 2016. Please check the approved states to make sure yours is listed prior to enrolling in the course. New Live CE Course: Hall

Sherman College is teaming up with Michael Hall, D.C., FIACN for a seven-hour CE course, The Neurologic Screen on August 5, 2017, on campus. This seminar will provide understanding and demonstration of functional neurologic procedures that can be performed by the chiropractor to aid in analysis, diagnosis and patient outcomes. Doctors will gain a better understanding of what the “upper motor neuron” and “lower motor neuron” look like in clinical practice, the “top ten” tests to be used in every day practice; will be able to get engaged in the process of applying scientific literature to the chiropractic analysis; and will have fun with interpreting where there is “interference in function” of the nervous system and how to address subluxation of the spine. Students Have Strong Presence at Gonstead Extravaganza
Sherman students had a strong presence at the Gonstead Extravaganza on April 22-23 in Mt.Horeb, Wisconsin, at the Gonstead Clinic of Chiropractic. This event, presented by the Gonstead Methodology Institute (GMI) and the Gonstead Clinical Studies Society (GCSS), brought together doctors and students from all over the globe for presentations about recent research and developments as well as learning more about Gonstead technique. The large representation from Sherman College sparked interest among Gonstead leaders and other doctors in attendance.

Canup Completes Leadership Spartanburg Program
Sherman College Vice President for Business and Finance Karen Canup, CPA, has completed the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce program Leadership Spartanburg. This is a nine-month course designed to better prepare leaders and volunteers for community service through exploration of issues, challenges and opportunities facing Spartanburg County now and in the future.
Shepherd Recognized for LSAA Service
Dean of Clinic Operations and Outreach Kristy Shepherd, M.A., was recently named a Leadership Spartanburg Alumni Association (LSAA) Champion in recognition of her service on the board of LSAA to advance the organization; she received a $300 stipend to award to the nonprofit organization of her choice. Shepherd chose to support the Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM), an initiative that Sherman College partners with. SAM works to ensure, promote, and magnify student success throughout Spartanburg County.

“Education is crucial in our community,” Shepherd said of her decision to select SAM for the stipend. “I have a daughter growing up in public school in Spartanburg. I grew up in public schools in Spartanburg. I'm excited to see what SAM is bringing to the community and how much change they are bringing about in such a short amount of time."
Reizer Joins NBCE Part III, SPEC Test Committees
Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences Beth McDowell Reizer, D.C., ’96, participated with the Part III and Special Purposes Examination for Chiropractic (SPEC) test committees in April at the headquarters of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) in Greeley, CO.  The test committee approves items to be used on future examinations that the NBCE administers.
Health Center Names Intern of the Month
The Health Center faculty recognizes interns each month who excel in clinical performance, patient management, professionalism and analytical and adjusting technique. The April 2017 Intern of the Month is Barry Powderly, a twelfth-quarter student from Belpre, OH. He graduates in December 2017 and plans to practice at Life Adjusted in Harrisburg, PA, with June 2017 graduates Breanna Smith and Jeremy Chada.
Kent Elected as Fellow of IFCO
College of Straight Chiropractic 

Christopher Kent, D.C., J.D., Sherman College’s Director of Evidence Informed Curriculum and Practice, was recently elected as a Fellow of the College of Straight Chiropractic by the International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations (IFCO).

The IFCO held the induction on May 6 during Sherman College Lyceum. The honor was also given to Terry Van Dervort, D.C.

“I hope that the significance and sincerity of this most treasured IFCO honor given to these two extremely well-deserving individuals was in no way diminished by the fact that it was presented by a fish, two princesses, and one very flashy plaid jacket,” IFCO and Sherman College Board member Judy Campanale, D.C., ’82 (ADIO/Penn), said of the presentation made during Lyceum’s Atlantis-themed banquet, for which many wore sea-themed costumes.
Mile High Chiropractic Weekend

Sherman College alumni and friends will see many familiar faces during the fifth annual Mile High Chiropractic weekend August 17-20, 2017, in Denver, CO.
